[aur-requests] [PRQ#1141] Deletion Request for oraclejdk6-32
Nowaker [1] filed a deletion request for oraclejdk6-32 [2]: Not sure how to respond to a request filed against my package, so doing it this way...
JRE 6 removed from repos in Feb 2013[1],
From official community repos, not AUR.
and updates since 6u45 (April 2013)[2] only available through the Java SE Support program.[3]
So what? Please do not delete, there isn't anything bad in these packages. They do their job - they are perfectly usable on Teamcity build agents for running unit tests and integration tests against multiple Java version. Yes, even those deprecated ones. Greetings, Nowaker [1] https://aur.archlinux.org/account/Nowaker/ [2] https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/oraclejdk6-32/

I believe you're supposed to do it this way, by replying on the aur-requests list.

I must second this; I require Java 6 for a few applications at work that refuse to work with a newer version; there is no reason to remove them when they still work and can be useful. Regards, ~Celti

All right, but now that you mention, what is the purpose in having both oraclejdk6-32[1] and oraclejdk6-64[2] (and the v7 and v8 ones) on the side of the already-existing jdk6-compat[3] (which should actually be renamed to jdk6)? It says they're for "servers" but they use the exact same sources, and install in the same locations. On Fri Oct 17 15:17:53 UTC 2014, Patrick Burroughs (Celti) wrote:

He didn't do it that way. He actually made a whole new *deletion request* for that mail. You can respond by clicking on the email address next to the name. That way you don't have to subscribe.
