I assume this would make sense if we keep this route, In case the approach won't be NACKed I will send a second patch removing the duplicate properties.

I will nack this... it is handy to be able to extract this information from packages in a repo without going back to the original build tool. Reproducible builds is not the only possible use of this information. Allan
