Interesting ....

Looks like this isn't a pidgin bug at all, but rather a gtk-qt-engine 
one.  When I set my GTK style to QT, the text is all white.  When I set 
it to something else (e.g., Raleigh), it's multi-colored.

Weird.

I guess I'll file a bug on gtk-qt-engine.
