Thanks, I did this before I got your email:
changed fstab with /dev/sdc1 /media/exterhalhd   ntfs    defaults   0      0
then ran "mkdir /media/externalhd"
then ran "chmod 777 -R /media/externalhd"

Just got finished, actually, It works but is your method the better method?
