Long ago I've added these lines to gzip.vim (copied to ~/.vim/plugin/):

   autocmd FileAppendPre            *.xz  call gzip#appre("xz -d")

   autocmd FileAppendPost        *.lzma call gzip#write("lzma")
   autocmd FileAppendPost        *.xz  call gzip#write("xz")
