Yes. And after doing that 'aplay -L' shows the card as well.

So it seems that

- downgrading the kernel to 2.6.37
- and adding 'modproble snd_seq' in /etc/rc.local

will provide a working system. 

I have to install five of them today and tomorrow, so that
will be my first priority for now.
