To me, that just doesn't sound like a sensible rescue plan for a modern OS.  I 
like tinkering and learning, but being forced to boot a CD, load dm-mod, bring 
up my LVM volumes, mount the root, bind proc, sys, and dev, chroot, and finally 
get pacman to install the last kernel?  That's something I'd like to avoid 
unless I'm doing it for fun :)
