This is default I get most of the times for Linux installs. For me this
sometimes cause trouble, since the wheel button easily unintended could
be pushed.

I suspect that Pete's mouse has got no middle click [1].
FWIW on my system there are no entries regarding to the mouse
in .xinitrc and xorg.conf.d/.
