I would use rankmirrors as well, this is the mirrorgen script I use:

reflector -c "United States" --sort age --protocol http --save
/tmp/mirrorgen && rankmirrors -v -n 5 /tmp/mirrorgen | sudo tee
/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
