Hi, just wanted to let you know, adding the line:

Option      "Backlight"  "intel_backlight"

in:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

has restored the functionality;  albeit with an interesting twist:
setting the backlight value to 0 now turns the backlight off.
