If you're going to ask on the mailing list first, could you not then go
submit an upstream bug almost immediately after? I mean, I sort of
assumed the reason you posted to the ML is in order to check whether
this was expected/known, and more critically, it was in the expectation
of getting a reply.

Hence it would be logical to wait for said reply. :)
