Yamaha guitars are typically have a rather good factory setup (at least
the ones in that price range and above). Mine was perfect from the
start, but now I switched to a different string gauge and so have to
make a few adjustments.

I really like the P90 pickup on this guitar. I tried out a Yamaha
Revsatr 520 recently, which has two P90 pickups (but these are custom
made by/for Yamaha not Seymour Duncan) and is more in the vein of
Les-Paul-style guiters and it also felt fantastic.

I first saw the Pacifica 611 at the Musikmesse a couple of years back
and later that day Soren Anderson (together with Marco Mendoza) did a
little gig there using this model, which was convinced my to seek it out
in the shops. :)

Anyway, back on topic, I'd like to transfer my Fishman triple play hex
pickup to my Variax guitar, since it is a kind of cyborg guitar already
:) but I would have to do some modifications to the pickguard for that.
For my the USB-MIDI onyl conenction is not an issue, since I only play
at home anyway. If I ever need to connect it to a DIN-MIDI only device
directly, I'll just use a raspberry pi as the MIDI router.

Cheers, Chris

P.S. Maybe we should transfer this topic to the general linux audio
mailing list?
