Since 3.4.0, makepkg automatically aborts when when one command in the
build or package functions doesn't terminate successfully.  Therefore,
the "|| return 1" are no longer necessary and can be removed from
PKGBUILD to tidy them up.  You'll probably get more info in the
pacman/makepkg ChangeLog.
