Hey all, I plan on moving some packages from AUR to [community]. Additionally, this of course is just my short list of "interesting pieces of software, that would be neat to have a binary package of". Maybe you can think of some more? Let me know! Hello. Can anyone verify that the most recent linuxsampler and gigedit packages actually work in combination? It seems like none of the frontends (qsampler, jsampler) are no longer capable of launching gigedit to edit patches. Linuxsampler itself appears to work in that you can load .gig files and play samples from them, and Gigedit works standalone in that you can open .gig files from the command line and make changes. However, if you try to get one of the frontends to launch Gigedit: 16:09:21.076 Channel 0 lscp_edit_channel_instrument: There is no instrument editor capable to handle this instrument (errno=100) There is no instrument editor capable to handle this instrument 16:09:21.080 Channel 0 Could not launch an appropriate instrument editor for the given instrument! Make sure you have an appropriate instrument editor like 'gigedit' installed and that it placed its mandatory DLL file into the sampler's plugin directory. I've tried straceing the process to see if there's anything obvious happening like a failed exec() call, but I can't see anything. Hi David, what are your thoughts on packaging Robin's x42-gmsynth package (https://github.com/x42/gmsynth.lv2)? My students pointed me to this as an easier-to-use, no-fuzz alternative to Ardour's a-Fluid Synth plugin, so it would be cool to have this nicely packaged up for installation in our MIDI lab to ease upcoming Ardour courses. The PKGBUILD shouldn't be hard to do, the included Makefile is well-done and already has all the required targets. [arch-proaudio] [OT]'ish: new software

Hey hey, this isn't strictly ArchLinux business, but I just created a small program, that is especially useful to Waldorf MicroWave II/XT users (a hardware wavetable synth). The program will print direct MIDI/SysEx data, filtering out big data dumps with a kind message or show the actual display contents of that synth on the computer screen. It's thus mainly useful to blind people, like myself, or people, having to work remotely with them and diagnose stuff. Since this is also my first properly finished programming project with a build system and everything, I'd just like to get some feedback, if anyone's a little interested. It's up on github: https://github.com/fsilvain/mwsd.git I've got it to compile and work on my Linux machine and a mac os system. It requires c++11 and RtMidi, boost_program_options and ncurses. FWIW the arch-proaudio archives' thread view is broken, resp. the depth of the thread tree is limited. The thread view is diplayed correctly by claws mail version 3.16.0git24 and evolution 3.26.5, even for mails sent via the mailing list, just the archives' thread view is inconsistent.

I built Ardour 5.12 the other day and came up with some inconsistencies, so I asked rgareus one of the devs for advice. He gave me the following: 1. sed -i 's/python ${SRC}/python2 ${SRC}/' libs/pbd/wscript is not needed this has been fixed in the source a long time. The only thing we have to do is to run python2 waf configure as the script already does. 2. configure it like this: configure --prefix=/usr --configdir=/etc --with-backends="jack,alsa,dummy" \ --libjack=weak \ --optimize \ --cxx11 \ --ptformat \ --no-phone-home He said there is no need to build the documentation on the users machine. Add the dummy backend which improves on functionality. Optionally add the experimental --ptformat option which gives initial support for opening pro tools session in ardour. This is a work in progress but they have understood the XOR based encryption and are in the process of clean room reverse engineering the format. -- Joakim
