Check the output of mplayer2 to see which driver is it using. You can
specify the driver (e.g. fbdev2) in the command line too.
IMHO playing videos in the console is a strange idea as X drivers
don't work there ... Why are you doing this?

You should be able to build mplayer2 yourself and keep using it.
