The xorg18 repository has been cleared out, all packages have been moved to
testing. A lot of users have been testing this xorg18 repository with success,
so it's time to move it to testing. This means all testing users who haven't
tried the xorg18 repository yet will have to reconfigure their input devices on
the next upgrade. The original announcement for the xorg18 repository can be

It is with great sadness that we must report a tremendous [loss to the the Linux
community][1]. On the morning of the 23rd, Jan Mette (funkyou) passed away of
as-yet unknown causes. Jan was a major contributor to the Arch Linux community,
the creator of KDEmod and a founding member of the Chakra team. Our sincerest
condolences go to his family, friends and the Chakra team.

In order to help reduce the workload and expand the Arch Linux development team,
we are considering bringing on some "Junior Developers". The new recruits would
be mentored in the maintenance of a group of packages by a current developer,
with the objective of eventually becoming a co-maintainer or the primary
maintainer of those packages. Interested people should be prepared to read
upstream mailing lists for the packages they are maintaining, investigate and
(if necessary) follow-up with upstream any bug reports that are made on their
packages. They should also have been using Arch Linux for a while and be
familiar with the packaging system. To apply, send an email to Allan
(@archlinux.org) detailing your experience with Arch, the packaging system and
general ability to track down bugs in software. Importantly, provide what group
of packages you are interested in and any evidence of following the upstream
development of those packages.

Users of vim/gvim should take note! The recently released update of vim/gvim
(7.2.411) introduces a few important changes. * We have moved vim/gvim to a
single PKGBUILD following the splitpkg format. * If you have gvim installed, the
update will inform you that vim conflicts with gvim. This is the expected
behavior. Installation of vim and gvim separately is no longer required, the
gvim package now installs vim as well. * Installation of either vim or gvim will
pull in a new dependency, vim-runtime. The files included in vim-runtime were
pre-existing in both the gvim and vim packages. This update allows a cleaner
update path for future vim/gvim updates. Enjoy!

It is that time of year again, but this year we are being super subtle. In fact
so subtle, many of you will not notice the good day at all. But there is
definitely one there. Post your guesses in [this][1] dedicated forum thread. We
have a donated netbook to give away as a prize for the first person who fully
uncovers the joke.
