Hi, In some UEFI systems, startup.nsh does not start and the boot stops at Shell prompt without giving any indication of any error whatsoever. I think instead of relying on UEFI Shell, we should use a proper, simple UEFI boot manager to load EFISTUB kernel in archiso. So here is a patch replacing UEFI Shell as the primary boot pathway to gummiboot. I have renamed the UEFI Shell binaries and archiso now includes both v1 and v2 shell binaries, accessible via gummiboot menu. Some options present in shell v2 is not present in v1, but v1 works in all firmwares while v2 works only in >=2.3 (spec. version) firmwares. I have attached the patch. For this support, gummiboot-efi-x86_64 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=62791 should be moved to [extra] or [core] repo. Please give your comments. Regards. Keshav

[arch-releng] pacman-init problems

Have recently added haveged & pacman-init [daemons], both seem to start up ok. But keys are not loaded. I have to re-run pacman-key --init and pacman-key --populate archlinux post install. Have made sure pacman-init is in rc.d and haveged is running. Even added full paths to pacman-key commands without any luck. Wondering if anyone else is having the same problem? MrG

The only issue is on shutdown, because systemd will try to unmount all fs, detach loop devs, and detach device-mapper devices, in a loop of 50 times, so lots of messages will see on console. But does not cause any harm, shutdown initramfs is reached and proper shutdown is done. (mostly important when persisten is used)

[arch-releng] [PATCH] Copy UEFI Shell to (ISO)/EFI/boot/bootx64.efi

Hi all, I created a minor patch (attached) to copy UEFI Shell to (ISO)/EFI/boot/bootx64.efi apart from setting up efiboot.img. With this change, creating a UEFI bootable USB is a simple task of extracting Archiso to FAT32 formatted USB and booting it. Without this change the user needs to use p7zip to extract files from efiboot.img . The shell binary is very small so this should not be an issue. I also added refind-efi-x86_64 to the list of packages in the ISO as this is required for providing a menu for EFISTUB booting. Regards. Keshav

[arch-releng] Automated script hook broken in latest media?

Hi all, Am I mistaken, or is the automated_script hook currently broken (2012.09.07)? The hooks seems to try and use "wget" but only curl seems to be installed now... Happy to raise a bug on flyspray if need be, but wanted to confirm I'm not missing something first. Greg

Hi release devs, I started with arch a few days ago and mentioned that there is only one small install txt file. I think that during the installation of Arch (w/o internet connection) it would be good to have additional installation guides for Wireless, Network & X.Org, (even LVM) installation/configuration processes. ---- thanks!

[arch-releng] Tagging a new archiso release

Hi, I'd like to test and tag a new archiso release tomorrow so a new iso can be pushed this weekend. Any objections to this? Anything else that should be included into that release but is not yet commited to git? We should delay the systemd patches for a later release. It has some potentional problems on shutdown and with the proposed dhcpd service file. It's also a little untested for a last minute change. I also hadn't had time myself to look into this yet.
