[arch-releng] Nicer boot menu entry on Macs

Hi guys, This might be an edge case, so feel free to reject the idea. Currently when entering the boot menu on a Mac to install Arch, the correct entry to select has a generic usb harddrive logo and the label "Windows". I don't find this hugely helpful. If we install the attached icon as '.VolumeIcon.icns' on the EFI System Partition on the install media we get a nice Arch logo rather than the generic one. Changing the label from "Windows" to "Arch Linux Install" (or something like that), is left for future work. I'll look into that if unless there are objections to the icon. Cheers, Tom

These are some initial changes, while testing syslinux 5. Some things with 5.01: * whichsys.c32 and ifcpu64.c32 seems to be broken so, you need to enter manually at "boot:" prompt the right label, ie: boot: sys, boot: have64. (reported to upstream) * PXE seems to be broken, after loading gpxelinux.0, does not found UI or DEFAULT directive configuration. (need more research) * comboot support was removed so, there is no more poweroff.com, and there is no poweroff.c32 module at this time. [arch-releng] Arch Linux Netboot Live System

Hello everybody, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask, so feel free to redirect me if you have a better address. The "Arch Linux Netboot Live System" [0] allows to boot Arch Linux install media directly from internet. At the moment the iPXE image chainloads a syslinux image providing a graphical menu. The culprit is loading kernel and initramfs from WAN - tftp is horribly slow if latency increases. My suggestion is to drop syslinux completely and just use iPXE. Latest development releases from git do have a menu system [1] and iPXE itself is capable of loading kernel and initramfs via http (or https or whatever you prefer), decreasing boot time dramatically. The only drawback is that iPXE does not have a graphical menu interface... But who cares - it just has to work reliably, no? ;) Let me know if you need help implementing this or if you are need any more information.
