Hi All, It's great that "pacman" finally has native colour support in v4.1.0. It's just a shame that it's not as good as that of "pacman-color". Without meaning any offence, it falls way short of the mark IMHO. I'm hoping you can just replicate the colourisation of "pacman-color". For your convenience, I've attached the relevant files you'd need. I'm only requesting this because "pacman-color" no longer exists. -- Regards, Xavion.

It looks like the bug reports for 4.1 have stopped, so I guess we should make a maintenance release. There are a couple of new strings to be translated and a couple of issues reported with translations, so I will need to get those on transifex. See: here for a list of bugs reported/fixed: https://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?do=index&tasks=&project=3&due=111&stat… The PKGBUILD proto files could have the prepare() function added just to be more complete and fix the remaining bug is someone wants to volunteer to do that... Anything I have missed? A bug not assigned to 4.1.1 that should be fixed? Allan

On upgrades, indirect dependencies were not being detected if there was a dependency in between them that was not part of the transaction. For example, with the dependency chain: pkg1 -> pkg2 -> pkg3, if pkg1 and pkg3 are being upgraded but not pkg2 pacman would not order pkg1 and pkg3 properly. This was particularly problematic when replacements were involved because the replaced package(s) would be removed at the start of the transaction. If an install script required the replacer and lacked a direct dependency, it could fail. Fixes FS#32764. Partially fixes FS#23011. This set of patches separate the ini parsing from pacman/conf.c into its own file to make the code reusable for future additions, like parsing config files for hooks. The config file gets parsed into a list of ini_section_t which contains the name of the section and a list of directives which in turn contain key, value, file and linenum. File and linenum are included to keep the ability to mention the location of errors in pacmans error messages. I realize that a new release is planed for the near future and this patch is not intended to be included in that release, since it adds new strings to be translated and it probably needs more than one review cycle. Currently we make no effort to validate the %FILENAME% field in the repo db. This allows for relative paths to be considered valid. A carefully crafted db entry with a malicious relative path, (e.g. `../../../../etc/passwd`) will cause pacman to to overwrite _any_ file on the target's machine. [pacman-dev] RFC: pacdiff finding pacnews through libalpm

I made up a program to help find pacnews that are in odd locations. It includes a c utility based on vodiks pacrat. It uses libalpm to return the path to pacnews and pacsaves from all active configs in the local db. Then there is a version of pacdiff which has it run in place of find. This is better than the current find or locate used in pacdiff which doesn't look outside of /etc/ by default for performance reasons. With this pacdiff can find syslinux config in /boot, or avahi's db in /usr/lib with no noticeable delay. The only drawback I am aware of with using the local db is cannot find pacsaves unless the package is reinstalled. I think this would be a useful inclusion to the contrib tools, so let me know of what sucks about it and what it can be done to to get that accomplished. it currently is in github, but I can make up patches against pacman.git if wanted. https://github.com/JohnFrazier/pacnewrat John Frazier
