Hello, in the ArchWiki [ https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman#Configuration ] I found the funny and cheerful option "ILoveCandy" in pacman.conf. As far as I can see - this option is not mentioned in "man 5 pacman.conf". May be I'm using not the most recent version of pacman and the the man page is already updated: pacman --version --> Pacman v4.2.0 - libalpm v9.0.0" If not - can somebody update "man 5 pacman.conf" - or would it be better to fill a bug? "... *VerbosePkgLists*:: Displays name, version and size of target packages formatted as a table for upgrade, sync and remove operations. + *ILoveCandy*:: + A cheerful option. There was some manual check to know if the local repository was really a clone of the one specified in PKGBUILD. This check has been removed because it is buggy and not necessary. It is buggy because this check needs to be semantic, not a simple string comparison. For example, I was blocked from building a PKGBUILD because Bazaar was returning two different strings for the same location (for HTTP one was url-encoded while the other was not, and for local paths one was absolute while the other was relative). While this may be a bug in Bazaar, the check is unreliable since the comparison is not semantic (http://foo.com/%2Bplus and http://foo.com/+plus obviously refer to the same location for example). Specially, it is useless because the intention is updating the existing local clone. However, if the local clone is not a real clone of the repository specified in PKGBUILD (which was what this buggy check tried to tell), next step which is a pull operation will fail anyway. This is because bzr pull does not perform merges, it just makes one branch into a mirror of another. There was a reason provided when this manual check was added for Git, but no reason provided for copying such check when Bazaar support was added, see commits below. [pacman-dev] New way to download signing keys prone to MITM attacks?

Hello, today, I was asked for the first time whether I want to download a signing key. So far this was done using a "keyring" package, which, itself, was signed using a trusted key. How do you prevent MITM attacks? For me this seems like anyone, who can perform a MITM attack, can trick me into installing virtually any package as long as he signs it with a key somewhere available on a public keyserver. Of course I would be asked whether I want to import that key but how do I know if the key is really valid and trusted? My guess is that most users will just say "yes" in this case. For me this seems to be a big step backwards in terms of security. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance. Manuel

[pacman-dev] [PATCH] Add AM_MAINTAINER_MODE to configure.ac and disable by default

We had issues with people trying to build the 4.2.0 tarball while not having automake-1.14 installed. This appears to be due to timestamp issues resulting in autotools trying to regenerate various files and then the Makefiles deciding they need specific versions of automake. This can be fixed by adding AM_MAINTAINER_MODE([disable]) to configure.ac, which means that any build will not try and rebuild any build scripts unless explicitly requested. Pacman developers can consider using --enable-maintainer-mode when running configure to use autotools to update build scripts as needed. Less output, although errors and warnings will still be printed (scripts/library/output_format.sh). Cleaner to have -q,--quiet than >/dev/null in cron. Hi, I'm a PackageKit alpm backend contributor and I found a strange behavior when removing a package in the same alpm_handle_t lifecycle. Here you have the simplified workflow : alpm initialization new transaction install inkscape end transaction new transaction remove inkscape end transaction When removing the package, backend does an alpm_db_get_pkg (localdb, name) to get the package and then call alpm_remove_pkg with this found package. alpm_remove_pkg returns an error with 6 as errno. I looked in alpm_remove_pkg code and there is 3 cases returning such error. The one failing is pkg coming from localdb. I have no knowledge of libalpm internals but from the outside it looks like the package structure was copied ot the localdb in installation phase but the db field was not updated. I hope this is a bug that could be solved. Regards, Fabien
