I pushed a new release tonight. It is the current (88cbee) cut of the master branch. Stable enough for me to trust it here. :) Vastly reduced memory usage compared to v3.1.1 now- I posted a little writeup on my blog about how massif helped us examine this memory issue, as it wasn't a memleak problem at all. I did enable a debug compile for this so you should be able to use gdb and have full symbols on a segfault backtrace or something. -Dan

So he left this as a TODO. [pacman-dev] issues with cleaning a shared pacman cache with new -Sc behaviour

Hi! I've found an issue that appeared after the change in -Sc behaviour. It now removes "uninstalled" packages from cache which is good for majority of users, but is bad for shared pacman cache users. With a pacman cache shared between machines it is impossible to correctly clean it with pacman if a set of installed packages on them is different. I remember there was at least one script posted here or on forums that removes old version of packages from a specified directory (it was provided as a helpful tool for managing local repositories AFAIR), but I cannot find it. Could someone who have this (or similar) script please share it? It needs to be posted to our wiki page about a shared cache, and maybe Phil's rucksack script needs to be modified as well. -- Roman Kyrylych (Роман Кирилич)

Hi! # pacman -S ttf-ms-fonts warning: ttf-ms-fonts-2.0-1 is up to date -- reinstalling It was asking user for confirmation before which I think was logical, because if user just forgot he/she has this package installed - this would allow to avoid creating of unnecessary .pacnew files. People, Pacman 3.1.0 has a new common "mirrorlist" repository structure like [core] # Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist [extra] # Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist Is there a way to change this syntax to this one (like rc.conf) below? [pacman-dev] problems with string freeze or i'm doing something wrong?

Hello. I finished the message translation to pt_BR (using the final .po files released with the string freeze) and wanted to test it to see if everything was ok. So, I compiled pacman from a git clone with my .po files and ran it. When I tried a 'pacman -Si pacman', the messages "Optional Deps", "Packager", "Architecture", "Build Date" and "MD5 sum" were in English, and all the other strings in Portuguese. The options showed when doing a "pacman --help" were in English, too. Was this noticed by another translator? Maybe I'm doing something wrong when compiling. Thanks jfsantos

[pacman-dev] Restore .pacsave file if present - WORK IN PROGRESS

Hi, In continuing to misjudge what would be an easy bug to fix I had an attempt at FS#8645 - Restore pacsaves on install [1]. The attached patch is a definite work in progress. I have two queries: 1) Would it be better to notify the user of the restore or to query them. Either way they will get a notification about the new file being installed to .pacsave. I'm leaning on query here because that would allow the user to stop really old files being restored. 2) Should I worry about the case where a file used to be backed up but is not now. Hi, I hope everyone had a great holiday! Perl module PKGBUILDs tend to be a mess and some build() functions are not "standard". Now with the new upcoming perl policy all of the PKGBUILDs need to be "standardized" again. To help combat this problem I hacked up a package class feature where all the functions and package defaults are set in a class file and sourced before the package is built. The class file can define a set of build functions to call instead of just build(). Some advantages: - standardization of package types, even AUR packages could be uniform - code in makepkg could be moved to a class so that it could easily be override by people doing non-standard things: no man pages, i585 ports - anything set in the PKGBUILD takes precedence over the class - defined build functions can be optional (see the sample perl class) The patch is backwards compatible with non-class PKGBUILDs and I have been using my classy makepkg for 5 days. Attached is the patch, a perl class, and sample PKGBUILD for Sys::Syslog. Right now the class file has to be in the same directory as the PKGBUILD. Happy New Year! k -- K. [pacman-dev] [PATCH] makepkg: add check to ensure we have non-URL files in build dir

Pacman 3.0 printed the following message if a file could not be found: ERROR: xxx was not found in the build directory and is not a proper URL. We lost this logic in 3.1 when moving to the DLAGENT type stuff, so a not-found file got passed all the way to the download logic where it failed with a odd error message. Bring back some logic to ensure only files with URLs get past a certain point, and fail if the file is not available. Fixes FS#9208.
