This was discussed in a bug report iirc, here is some summary: http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Linux-distributions-to-include-run-d… Apparently, many tools (among them udev) will soon require a /run/ directory that is mounted early (as tmpfs). It is probably a good idea to add this to the filesystem and initscripts packages.

Hi guys, I'm planning to push the following patches, and thought I'd ask for some acks before going ahead. Most are just minor fixes. The patches marked "workaround" are removing workarounds that have been in initscripts for a long time. I think we should either remove them or annotate them with the relevant upstream bugreport, so we can track what is happening and don't end up keeping these things forever. The last patch (which creates directories in /dev that otherwise would be created by udev) is, besides the justification given in the commit message, usefull if we ever want to support bootlogd (I think we do!), as it would have to be started before udev is running. Hello, namcap 3.0.6 has been released in [testing]. It fixes several regressions with respect to the namcap 2.x series. If nobody complains about it I will also move it to [extra] in a few days. Changes since 3.0.5 * fix the inverted logic in provides handling during missing dependency detection (introduced by mistake in 3.0.5) * add a test for the sodepends rule to the testsuite * give reasons why a dependency has been detected when reporting it as missing: this feature was present in namcap 2.8 but unfortunately disappeared when I factored out the dependency analysis. I just revisited [1] and found out that it isn't correct. The kernel only exports foo=bar pairs to init (and only if it doesn't know the left hand side, for instance, it doesn't export root=). Statements without = are not exported. The reason this worked is that mkinitcpio used 'export' to export 'verbose=y' in this case. This is not true anymore for 0.6.9 (and future releases, as 0.6.9 has a bug related to this change). I guess [1] should be reverted, and the initscripts should be search for more such checks.
