Hi devs, This mail is trigger by this problem [#1]. 1) PKG1 installs some directory without any files like "/some/common/dir" 2) PKG2 installs the same directory "/some/common/dir" with or without any files inside 3) Removing PKG2 also remove "/some/common/dir" that is installed by PKG1 This behaviour is expected? pacman only track files not directories true? Also tested with the latest pacman.git (at commit 30c4d53ce) packages like openssh that install an empty dir "/var/empty/" should also install a hidden file like "/var/empty/.keep.this.for.openssh" ? Just checking the sanity of an idea here: What do you all think of supporting wildcards for version comparisons? I was thinking fnmatch could almost be dropped in directly to alpm_pkg_vercmp in place of the initial strcmp. Use case: readline version 6.0.003 bash depends readline=6.0.* Thoughts?

Hi folks, First of all thanks everyone, especially Xavier and Dan for pushing the patch in. Aqpm is, after a rush of fixes yesterday, definitely ready for prime time. I pushed the latest changes to the git repo yesterday to make it fully compliant with pacman 3.3. Now, shaman looks quite stable and working, but I still don't feel like calling it a final quality product. However, I definitely want to push it with pacman 3.3 and I'll try my best to fix the last issues (mainly with the config panel not behaving properly, while ABS support will be marked as "non working" since I simply have no time now). So, I wondered if we could set up a way in which we can push pacman, aqpm and shaman to the repos at the same time. You can simply pull from the git repos, but I will definitely release a tarball when the time comes. This allows a frontend to define its own download algorithm so that the libfetch dependency can be omitted without using an external process. The callback will be used when if it is defined, otherwise the old behavior applies. With that said, I think we could perhaps take some precautions for such things, such as adding a pacman.conf option to verify the architecture. Something such as: RootDir = / DBPath = /var/lib/pacman Architecture = x86_64 Where the accepted options would be something like: Architecture = { i686, x86_64, ppc, etc... } or "auto", which would make a uname system call, check the machine[] field, and use that instead of a value being hardcoded? What does the rest of the list think? This wouldn't be too hard, and of course a package coded with architecture "any" would get a free pass. -Dan

Also when I run directly valgrind on pacman (without pactest), it works fine. So might be only a new fakeroot related problem. Anyway, it's not important, but if anyone has any clue, just tell :)

The problem seems to be that in the old package /usr/lib/klibc/include/asm is a symlink to another directory which contains these files. In the new package, this symlink is replaced by a directory. pacman thinks that there are file conflicts, while there are none. I cannot find a viable workaround for this.

Hi! I've been inactive for the past year, so I don't know if this is already fixed. Sometimes I get segmentation fault during downloading db or package. This is the latest output from today. As you may see this is with --debug, but it doesn't really helps to get idea on what may cause the segfault. At the time of this segfault I was connected to a wireless network with quite unstable connection (disconnects are rare, but I think packet loss might have place). Seems like libfetch related issue. Is this known? Or if it's alpm/pacman-related - was something like this fixed in git? Hello people, Here goes another chapter of the fetch callback saga. I finally managed to get a patch working on my copy and completed the integration with Shaman. I have attached a patch that is almost completely based upon Sebastian's one, however it does not abstract the logic of xfercommand out to pacman. Now alpm works this way: 1. If the frontend registered a fetch callback, use that 2. If there is a xfercommand, use that 3. If there's nothing, usual behavior You can pull aqpm+shaman master and check out how things work well. In the shaman land, now it works like this. 1. Shaman creates the queue and streams it to Aqpm 2. Aqpm authentifies itself through Policykit 3. Aqpm spawns an helper, running as root (remember that shaman now doesn't run as root or suid) 4. The helper checks for the caller's authorization, and then registers its own callback. It will then stream progress back to Aqpm through DBus In case the patch doesn't cut out, I was thinking about shipping along with Aqpm a bundled alpm with this patch in, and I would appreciate some opinions on that too. -- ------------------- Dario Freddi KDE Developer GPG Key Signature: 511A9A3B
