Upstream already supports this via the loglevel= parameter on the kernel cmdline, so we should support using this instead of our own homegrown solution. Patches 1 and 2 are a rework of early patches that address concerns Thomas had. The third patch is a change similar to patch 2 which loads all earlymodules= at once, instead of looping. I don't notice any difference in runtime for early userspace with the binary depmod files, but this definitely has an impact. dave

Simplify the code used to generate and read from the early userspace blacklist by turning the contents of the $disablemodules variable into /run/modprobe.d/initcpio.conf. This removes the need for the loop in parsing the $MODULES variable -- we simply invoke modprobe with -b, to respect any blacklisting. Hi Thomas, I was having a look around mkinitcpio today, and I wondered if it would make sense to add support for the same syntax that the kernel supports for the root parameter. It is described here: <http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob;f=i…>. In particular I was thinking of being able to do "root=PARTUUID=00112233-4455-6677-8899-AABBCCDDEEFF", rather than "root=/dev/disks/by-uuid/00112233-4455-6677-8899-AABBCCDDEEFF". The current syntax works fine for me, but it would be nice to be able to use the same syntax for my custom non-initrd kernels as for the stock kernels. Apologies if this is already possible, a quick git grep did not turn up anything. Cheers, Tom

We already have /tmp and /dev/shm as world writebale directories with exec permissions, so it doesn't necessarily make sense to inhibit exec here. There may be uses cases after early userspace but prior to root being remounted RW where a one-off script may need to be written and executed.
