[arch-mirrors] adding a robots.txt

Hey! Looking at logs from my mirror (https://arch.jensgutermuth.de/) reveals at least Google and AHrefs are crawling my mirror, which is obviously a waste of resources for both sides. I'm thinking about blocking them (and all other crawlers) using a robots.txt file like so (nginx config snippet): location= /robots.txt { return 200 "User-agent: *\nDisallow: /\n"; allow all; access_log off; } Doing it this way prevents robots.txt from showing up in directory listings and circumvents all issues with the sync script. I know modifying mirror contents is a very touchy subject and rightfully so. I therefore wanted to ask if there is some kind of policy and if there is, if this would be allowed or a possible exception. Best regards Jens Gutermuth

Hi, the server is actually up since 10 days ago, but has its IP changed due to dynamic IP. ddclient is responsible for taking care of this, but CloudFlare removed old API for updating DNS records (now shows 410 GONE in favor of newer API in ddclient's debug message) which ddclient is currently still using unfortunately. There is no newer ddclient/any issue report about this at this moment, which means I have to find a new DDNS solution for this.

I am on long vacation ✈️✈️✈️✈️ with my sisters 👩‍👩‍👦 while my parents 💑 are on short vacation ✈️ right after we left home 🏠. To prevent anything 💻🖨📺 from catching fire 🔥🔥🔥, my parents 💑 seem to have everything except fridge turned off 🤦‍ without telling me 🙄🙄🙄 including my server 💻 which is arch-mirror.wtako.net 😭😭😭. The mirror should be up again in few days, if not 14 days. 🙈😫😫 Sorry for using emojis, I know that they are silly but they are really funny. 😹

Yeah, so my registrar canceled my auto-renew and, as a result, my mirror (arch.mirror.square-r00t.net) is inaccessible via DNS. It's been rectified, but it of course hasn't propagated everywhere and their TTL for the SOA they replaced mine with (UGH.) is frustratingly high. Dear Admins, Dear Community! I have sad news to You: I have to announce that the hungarian mirror, arch.mthq.org will close permanently on 06/10/2018 (or 2018.06.10.) The reason behind it is simple, I move my server to another country, so I will not have a server here anymore. Maybe later I will introduce a mirror in Finland if there is a demand for it. Thank You, Gergely

Hi, it seems like the score of a mirror is associated with the uDelay value. Because the uDelay value of my mirror is depending on the uDelay of my sync mirror i want to use the one with least uDelay. Is there such a list or can i filter the mirrorlist for tier 1 mirrors with low uDelay? Regards, Daniel

I posted this in the forums but I thought I'd try here too. The Pacman Mirrorlist Generator at https://www.archlinux.org/mirrorlist/ does not seem to be working correctly. I have a script that uses a wget to fetch just the USA mirrors, but today, it got them all. At first, I thought perhaps something had changed, so I went to the site to generate a list from there so I could compare the URL it generated with the one I was using. I found the URL was the same and so were the results. I tried a couple of different countries with the same results. It seems to always return the full list, not just the country specified. I looked at a system I updated a few days ago (2018-04-18) and it had worked correctly then, but today (2018-04-21) it does not. -- Ross Boulet rossb(a)rossb.com -
