Hey. The epoch field in PKGBUILD files is completely ignored now, and the final Version field for the package consists only of pkgver and pkgrel (example: 5.0-1) This means that various AUR helpers cannot perform updates on packages that have epoch > 0, because the local package is from that higher epoch and the one in the AUR (as reported by rpc.php) is from epoch 0. I'm providing a patch that supposedly fixes the problem by inspecting the epoch field, and if not 0 prepending it to the Version (example: 1:5.0-1). Comments welcome.

Hi, as yaourt maintainer, I received a bug ticket about yaourt giving an error while searching for "es" on AUR. It seems that searching for "es" with rpc (and maybe only "es") returns an internal server error. http://aur.archlinux.org/rpc.php?type=search&arg=es But I cannot reproduce it on a local installed aur (even at version 1.8.2). If it's better to open a task on the bugtracker, just let me know. Regards.

Trying to reproduce FS#24580 [1] I stumbled upon a design flaw that apparently remained concealed for a long time due to a series of (un-)fortunate circumstances. Short summary of the bug report for reference: A package search currently seems to erroneously return an empty search result, if * Russian language is selected AND * there's no active session (the user is logged off) AND * a search term that would normally return a single package is used. Without going into details, I was surprisingly able to reproduce that. The cause seems to be the usage of header() to redirect to the package details page in case of single search results, where the HTML header and some more stuff has already been printed out. Due to PHP's output buffering being enabled by default with a buffer size of 4096 this only comes into effect in some corner cases, tho (coincidentally, most setups seem to result in header output with a size of just below 4kiB). Reducing PHP's "output_buffering" setting locally, I was able to reproduce that bug with other configurations as well. Some possible solutions/workarounds that came into my mind: * Use javascript redirects instead. * Just buffer output everywhere (ob_start(), ob_flush()). * Rewrite package search to retrieve package search results before even printing out anything. Thoughts? I tend to prefer the latter, cause it seems to be the only clean way (and the MVC way) of doing this. [1] https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24580

[aur-dev] AUR bad package moderation queue

We now have 29998 packages and counting in the AUR, of which 8122 have never been updated since initial upload, and I would guess another 8000 are also steaming piles of...something. My suggestion is a moderation deletion/cleanup queue that is visible only to Trusted Users to prevent the public from seeing it as a numbers game, and to prevent abuse. It would work as follows: 1. Package pages get a "Flag as Sh*t" (or equivalent) button, available to all logged in users. Perhaps there is a "reason" box. 2. Users start flagging packages. Whether a package has been flagged or not is not visible to anyone except TUs. 3. These flaggings are tracked and a TU moderation page is available for perusal. Heading the list are packages that got the most bad votes in descending order. Next might be those packages that have never been updated. 4. TUs can then review, on their own time, these bad packages. From there, they can do one of three things: a) delete it on the spot, b) comment and suggest improvements and delay the decision, or c) mark the package as non-sh*t, which will prevent the package from being flagged again for a 3-6 month span. Thoughts? The only goal here is to make the AUR more usable and not have to wade through old/outdated/less than well built packages. -Dan
