Hi all, Upstream has released syslog-ng 3.3.1, which I've dropped into [testing]. The full changelog is enormous (encompasses changes starting with 3.3.0alpha), so I'll only link to it here for interested parties: http://git.balabit.hu/?p=bazsi/syslog-ng-3.3.git;a=blob;f=NEWS There's a bunch of performance tweaks, a load of bugfixes (mostly from the alpha/beta releases, not 3.2), and some new logging backends which I have not enabled (I don't think we want mongo as a dependency). Relevant packaging changes to point out: - minor default config file syntax changes. If you don't merge your pacnew, syslog-ng is fairly vocal on the startup config check. - The pidfile has moved to /run. sysvinit folks will need to kill syslog-ng manually if you want to restart the daemon prior to a reboot. I've given this a run on sysvinit and systemd, and all looks well. Please test and signoff, both arches. Thanks, Dave

The most anticipated release EVER has landed in [testing]. Do I expect it to make it out before we need a 4.0.1? Not really. :) Upstream NEWS/changes: http://projects.archlinux.org/pacman.git/tree/NEWS?h=maint Disregard the 4.0.1 stuff that isn't in this package yet and hasn't been actually released. Questions? Concerns? Comments? I'm telling you as little as possible about this release and how to make things work to put more people in the "standard user who doesn't follow development like a hawk" shoes. This thread is for the *package in testing only*. We have more work to do from a distro policy standpoint on signing; please do not discuss that here but in another thread. -Dan

Signoff both, Allan * Noteworthy changes in release 8.14 (2011-10-12) [stable] ** Bug fixes ls --dereference no longer outputs erroneous "argetm" strings for dangling symlinks when an 'ln=target' entry is in $LS_COLORS. [bug introduced in fileutils-4.0] ls -lL symlink once again properly prints "+" when the referent has an ACL. [bug introduced in coreutils-8.13] sort -g no longer infloops for certain inputs containing NaNs [bug introduced in coreutils-8.5] ** Improvements md5sum --check now supports the -r format from the corresponding BSD tool. This also affects sha1sum, sha224sum, sha384sum and sha512sum. pwd now works also on systems without openat. On such systems, pwd would fail when run from a directory whose absolute name contained more than PATH_MAX / 3 components. The df, stat and readlink programs are also affected due to their use of the canonicalize_* functions. ** Changes in behavior timeout now only processes the first signal received from the set it is handling (SIGTERM, SIGINT, ...). This is to support systems that implicitly create threads for some timer functions (like GNU/kFreeBSD).

Hi all, Apparently I decided it was a great idea to inadvertantly break the installer with mkinitcpio 0.7.3 [1]. There's a number of possible fixes, and I've attacked it from several angles, but fixing it in mkinitcpio is the fastest way to stop the bleeding. I've tagged 0.7.4 and pushed it into [testing]. Along with this, I've knocked out another small FS [2] which required coordination with a change to filesystem, so I've pushed that as well. mkinitcpio-0.7.4: -------------------------------------- - avoid using mountpoint(1) - use usb-ehci udev rule from /lib - Remove early redirection 2>/dev/null such node does not exists. - Add groups=('base') in devel PKGBUILD - bump filesystem dependency to 2011.10 Thanks to Gerardo Exequiel Pozzi for his contributions for this release. filesystem-2011.10: -------------------------------------- - avoid clearing screen in /etc/issue - move modprobe rule to /lib Credit here goes to Tom, who kindly let me package this while he's off riding around on kangaroos. Because the handy-dandy, still on my path `udevadm` command definitely doesn't have any sort of documented 'restart' function for those of us that don't like to reboot our installs once a week. Real problem #1- how do I restart this? #2 without having the path memorized? Re: upower, udisks, and polkit running out of libexec: I don't think this is seen as an advantage by many around here. At least I see it as a negative; why are we making things harder on the user to have control of their system? I also think having to hardcode *any* path to a binary (user-usable or not, WE still have to use it) like this is a real issue; what happens when the Kool-Aid color of the week moves it again?
