Hello all, I've reworked the initscripts-splash patch by hand into the latest version of initscripts. I've also updated the fbsplash package to the latest version of splashutils. So far, I've been using it for about a week now with my laptop, and have encounted no problems at all. Splash even works on hibernate with uswsusp-splash from the AUR. I do however enable it using key commands, and use nowrap in nanorc (since wrapping is so frustrating when it comes to configuration etc). I'd prefer if nano -w was used in the installer, or nowrap in the default nanorc. Better than disabling a feature completely. -- Anders Bergh

Nice idea but I just to give some tip, simple is better. I think the colours even seeming logical are too many. Hello, after upgrading netcfg from 2.0.6 to 2.1.1 I can no longer connect to my wireless router (luckily downgrading back solves it). I know I should file a bug report and I will, I only wanted to ask what information is relevant, for output of which programs I should look, etc. Unfortunately I know almost nothing about wireless networks or how netcfg really works but when I was trying to manually do the interesting steps that I found in /usr/lib/network/wireless.subr, it seemed to me that the problem occurs in wpa_check() where wpa_cli status always returns SCANNING until it all times out. For some reason this doesn't happen with netcfg 2.0.6 so I suppose the previous steps that prepare everything do something in a different way. Ondřej -- Cheers, Ondřej Kučera

Hello! Since the last pcmciautils upgrade to version 15-1, my wifi card has stopped working. It is a very old Intel PRO/Wireless 2011B, but it was working fine until the upgrade, and it has worked again when I downgraded pcmciautils to previous version 14. I have included this package in IgnorePkg, but this is only a temporal solution. Does anybody know what can cause this problem? Do you need more information? Best Regards, Guillermo Leira

Anyone know what's up with the easynews pacman mirror? Every file access that pacman attempts fails like this: error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.easynews.com : Success Anyone know the cause and/or who to contact over there to get it fixed? It's usually a great mirror, and very reliable, and I use it as my primary. TIA, DR

Hi list, I'm new to Arch. The other day, I downloaded the ISO mentioned in the subject line. I remastered the image, because I needed some extra programs. I'm blind. I added a screenreader and a text-to-speech engine to the ISO, so that I could have spoken feedback during the install. I also added alsa-utils, alsa-lib, and a few miscellaneous packages. I burned the CD and booted the system. Arch started talking to me, and everything seemed ok. After a few minutes, I started noticing strange behavior. The system froze when I tried to execute a command. For instance, after typing "ps" at the bash prompt, the system locked up. It was unable to load the ps executable or one of its shared libraries from the CD. Sometimes, it would print the message "input-output error", and return to a working bash prompt. I could hear my CD-ROM drive clicking whenever it tried to load the executable. It just sat there for five or more minutes, spinning and clicking. I also noticed that Arch is writing data to its unionfs. Most of the data seems to be written to /var/log. Should a live CD be writing to logfiles? My problems could be caused by one of several things. 1. A broken CD-ROM drive. (I doubt it, because the drive is 3 weeks old). 2. A mistake while remastering the ISO. 3. Some sort of error from the original ISO. Has anyone else had trouble with this image? If not, then the issue must be caused by my hardware or personal configuration. Regards, -- Chris

[arch-general] Arch-Sheriff - A script to match NetBSD vulnerability database against Arch Linux packages

Hi everyone, Some time ago Paulo Matias [1] (member of Arch Linux Brazil) started a very nice project to help improve Arch's security. Paulo created a python script to automatically test Arch's packages against the NetBSD vulnerabilities database. The script can run automatically and generates a text file with the details of all vulnerabilities found. This project is now called Arch-Sheriff (the source is available here [3]) and me and Kessia Pinheiro [2] began to help Paulo in the development. Arch-Sheriff now generates a html page with all vulnerabilities details and a link to them. The page can be found here: http://dev.archlinux.org/~hugo/sheriff/ The idea now is to create a way to notify a package maintainer about the vulnerability and add a way to mark it as fixed in Arch. We also want to create a login so the maintainers can mark all the vulnerabilities that they fixed and a rss feed. Arch-Sheriff is still experimental and there are some things that needs to be fixed. But i think that you guys can see what we pretend and where we are going. :) And, please, tell me what you think about this. Any suggestion is welcome. Hi! I (and some people too) have been experiencing problems with virtualbox-ose since it was upgraded to version 2.0.2. Hi, all After upgrading to qt 4.4.2-1, I found that some qt4 program became broken, such as VirtualBox, and Qterm. All of these programs get a error like this: process 4272: The last reference on a connection was dropped without closing the connection. This is a bug in an application. See dbus_connection_unref() documentation for details. Most likely, the application was supposed to call dbus_connection_close(), since this is a private connection. D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace Aborted Is it really a bug of application, or just a bug of qt, or just a bug for this package?

Hello, after the latest system update arch changes tetex with texlive. now i have the problem to use some programs which needs tetex as dependency like muttprint or dblatex. Is there a opportunity to run this programs with texlive because tetex isnt more in the repository. thanks toni

[arch-general] Wireless userspace tools

The new tool to interface with mac80211 based wireless drivers is 'iw' [1]. It was started because WEXT (Wireless Extionsions) will be deprecated [2] and 'iw' will be the single tool to configure/manage wireless devices in linux. Currently, I see a PKGBUILD in AUR that is outdated and pointing to the wrong source as well. Though it is currently under heavy development [3] and doesn't implement all the commands that iwconfig supports, iw is where future development will be focused on. I think iw should be part of the core wireless tools in arch. Also, the new regulatory framework for wireless devices is CRDA, initial patches have already been merged into wireless-testing and the only way to choose a regulatory domain from userspace is using 'iw'. Which reminds me, CRDA has to be packaged too. Briefly, CRDA is a userspace database of regulatory domains and is invoked by the kernel as and when needed using udev. Development of CRDA happens on wireless.kernel.org. [4] Just wanted to update the arch developers with all the new wireless stuff that's happening. netcfg v2.1 is mostly a bug fix release, however there are some important changes and new features. - Remove driver specific hacks/quirks. Its gets the repository.db.tar.gz file from your repository; then its gets the tarball of the packages from AUR; build the packages and update the repository database (upload files also!!) hi, I see we have taglib-rcc in community. I dont know why, but i had it installed for some time. Then, without recent upgrade (still at 1.5-1), it began to get crazy, making my music application hang there: http://pastebin.com/m14e619a9. Reverting to unpatched taglib solved the problem. Maybe someone can confirm that this package is broken - you can test any apps using taglib ( juk, amarok, moc player come to my mind) But i also ask the purpose of this package as i cant find any other depending on it. Why did it enter the repo? If the broken state is confirmed, maybe we should think about removing it. Regards, Charly

Hello, since the latest update of cpufreqd it seems that the acpi_temperature variable in [Rule] does not have any effect for me anymore. Unfortunately I have no idea how this stuff works so it could be my own fault. I am not even sure if this is related to the cpufreqd upgrade, but it did work before. I have attached my cpufreqd.conf.
