Regarding the below: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:Building_in_a_Clean_Chroot It reads: "The -C and -M flags are optional, but it is recommended to provide these with clean pacman.conf and makepkg.conf files (directly from the pacman package) during first creation of clean chroot to ensure lack of user specific adjustments." I think this is misleading. If you *don't* provide these arguments, what you get is the default config files directly from the pacman package, right? So the desired thing in most circumstances is, presumably, NOT to override? - P

Hi guys, just looked at kernel26-lts PKGBUILD and config files. I have locally modified it to also split the headers out from standard package, as the stock kernel PKGBUILD does. - Adding xen pvops would make sense on a so called server kernel. http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenParavirtOps I can't test this myself but according to the link above i guess it's safe to enable it. It's now also enabled in .32 kernel 64 bit kernel. - Since the last pkgver it is possible now to build binary modules against the lts kernel, without the need of rebuilding them on every small bump. Imho it would make sense to provide the same binary modules for this kernel as we do for the stock kernel. Do you have any other thoughts or objections? hwclock calls appear to block somewhere between 1 and 2 seconds when we have back-to-back calls. My theory (without looking at the code) is that hwclock has to synchronize to the 1 second intervals of the hardware clock, so it can sometimes take up to a second to complete. To get around this unpleasant behavior, we can background the calls at point X in the boot sequence, and then later at point Y in the script (when we absolutely need the clock actions to be complete), we wait on the subprocess. This allows the rest of the boot sequence, after the hwclock code block, to continue until the point where we wait on the subprocess. Hello, I like this gnome feature that warns me about running out of space and proposes me to run a disk usage analyzer (baobab). Looking at the results, I found out that /usr/share/doc was taking a non negligible space : 140M It's actually the 3rd biggest directory in my filesystem after two games (openarena and flightgear). Well maybe 4th if I also count warsow in /opt :) It's especially gtkmm that made me go wtf. It takes 48MB. I checked the package size, 60MB. The next entries are far away, at 10MB, but still. Compared to the package size, they can still be pretty big (more than half). That made me want to check the proportion of docs in each package, and I quickly hacked a script together. I am pretty sure this subject has come here before, but I don't remember seeing any results, so I will post them here. That might help to establish some reasonable limits for when a package should be split.
