[arch-general] Building in docker?

For various reasons I'm looking into not using `makechrootpkg` when building the 200+ packages I put into a non-official repo. Obviously it's important to keep the building environment separate from my ordinary system environment. Going to full virtualisation is definitely overkill and the only containers I know of are chroots and docker. Docker has some nice attributes, in particular no need for root access. [arch-general] Smartcard troubles on Arch

Dear Archers, I am trying to get my Gemalto USB Shell Token V2 (GPG-Smartcard-Reader in a USB-Stick) to work on Arch. I've set up Udev in the way I did successfully in Ubuntu 12.04.LTS. However, no success. I am still trying to figure out where the trouble lies. I can never see the card using gpg --card-status But sometimes I see its fields when using pcscs_scan. Possible culprits: pcscd, which sometimes gives errors, gpg's USB support? Has anyone had success in setting up this reader or similar smartcard readers? Or had similar troubles? I would love to hear from you. Best, Mathias

Can this patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=33142 be applied to Arch's xorg? It solves famous problem https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 with broken keyboard input for users who use multiple keyboard layouts without any noticeable side-effects. [arch-general] FS#41424 - Virtualbox 4.3.14, USB doesn't work flawlessly

Hi, I experienced Virtualbox 4.3.14 x86_64 as broken, when I tried to sync an iPad2 with iTunes running on a XP SP3 guest. I only tested it with USB2 enabled, since it worked with 4.3.12. Usually I use the packages virtualbox, virtualbox-host-dkms, virtualbox-extension-pack and I add the guest additions, that fit to the used vbox version. Because I wasted much time with trying to use 4.3.14, I did an incomplete downgrade to 4.3.12 yet, since I'm short in time, but even with virtualbox 4.3.12-1 virtualbox-host-dkms 4.3.12-1 no extension pack, no USB2 and with wrong guest additions, version 4.3.14, I get rid of the issues. I will complete the downgrade on my machine ASAP and IMO the community packages should be downgraded for the repositories too. Do others experienced issues with Virtualbox 4.3.14 USB too? Hi, I'm trying to use HP myRoom tool: https://www.myroom.hp.com It's pretty similar to HP virtualRooms tool: https://www.rooms.hp.com There's an AUR package for hpvirtualrooms: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hpvirtualrooms And attached goes a package (essentially the PKGBUILD) I created for hpmyroom. myRoom is supposed to be based on the virtualRooms technology. With virtualRooms I don't have any problems getting whatever is shared from the virtual rooms. With myRoom I can use the VoIP functionality, I can chat, I can share desktop, and from my room I can also share desktop. Weird enough, I can not get what others share to me on myRoom, or others' room shares. What I see is something popping up really quick and disappearing in a blink of an eye. I'm not using any DE, just a plain WM (fluxbox), so perhaps it might be some configuration missing, or some permissions issue. I also attempted xhost+, with no success. Though I didn't expect anything great from that, given I don't need it for virtualRooms. I'm writing in case there's any Arch user that can help. On ubuntu with gnome this thing works out of the box, and I'm getting the hpmyroom binaries from the deb package (there's also rpm). [arch-general] Firefox 33, Intel GPU and latest "flashplayer": No animations but white area.

Hello, can someone reproduce the following on an Intel GPU with Firefox 33 and Flash? If I open a website with "Flash media", then the plugin loads (the context menu is the one that gets created by Adobe Flash) but I can't see anything. The area, where the "animation" should be is just white. I've downgraded to the latest Firefox 32 and my Flash content immediately worked again. Am I the only one with this problem or can someone reproduce this? Thanks in advance. Greetings, Manuel

[arch-general] Where's my locale gone?

I'm stumped: I've had LANG=en_GB.UTF8 in /etc/locale.conf ever since the switch to systemd, but in the last few days since my previous reboot, something's changed (maybe systemd 216?) and now I find that, even though /etc/locale.conf still contains en_GB, I get: # echo $LANG en_US.UTF8 This is almost certainly related to why I'm getting messed up character encoding in Konsole. In particular, tmux fails to render dividing lines properly, showing accented 'a' characters instead, and similar things happen in Vim. Is there some additional configuration I need beyond /etc/locale.conf now? I've checked locale.gen and rerun locale-gen without any effect. I've also tried rerunning mkinitpio for good measure. Any ideas? Paul

I noticed this today after the systemd update and after I rebooted - stunnel package fails to create /run/stunnel and so stunnel.service won't start as it cannot chroot to /var/run/stunnel. stunnel was updated for me on 10/21 from 5.03 to 5.06. Machine has been rebooted since then - so it -seems- like a change happened in systemd which triggered this, but I'm not sure. Work around is to add these 2 lines to /etc/systemd/system/stunnel.conf before the ExecStart line: ExecStartPre=-/usr/bin/mkdir /run/stunnel ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/chown -R stunnel:stunnel /run/stunnel Probably just a minor package bug. gene
