[arch-general] Building in docker?

For various reasons I'm looking into not using `makechrootpkg` when building the 200+ packages I put into a non-official repo. Obviously it's important to keep the building environment separate from my ordinary system environment. Going to full virtualisation is definitely overkill and the only containers I know of are chroots and docker. Docker has some nice attributes, in particular no need for root access. [arch-general] Smartcard troubles on Arch

Dear Archers, I am trying to get my Gemalto USB Shell Token V2 (GPG-Smartcard-Reader in a USB-Stick) to work on Arch. I've set up Udev in the way I did successfully in Ubuntu 12.04.LTS. However, no success. I am still trying to figure out where the trouble lies. I can never see the card using gpg --card-status But sometimes I see its fields when using pcscs_scan. Possible culprits: pcscd, which sometimes gives errors, gpg's USB support? Has anyone had success in setting up this reader or similar smartcard readers? Or had similar troubles? I would love to hear from you. Best, Mathias

[arch-general] Additional mouse (Lenovo N700) gesture binding

I just got the above bluetooth and/or wireless (dual-mode) mouse for my work, as the presenter laser looked pretty useful. 3 basic buttons (1, 2, 3) worked out of the box. So did the touch-scrolling (up/down). So I'm looking for advise for the remaining 3 inputs supported. This mouse has a 'Windows key' button and supports left/right swipe gestures (targeted at the new Windows side-screen gestures). Firstly, regarding the gestures, here's what I obtain from xinput test. I've also listed which keys these correspond to. Left swipe:- key press 22 Backspace key press 133 Super_L (left Windows key) key press 37 Control_L key release 22 Backspace key release 133 Super_L (left Windows key) key release 37 Control_L Right swipe:- key press 54 c key press 133 Super_L (left Windows key) key release 54 c key release 133 Super_L (left Windows key) This seems to correspond to pressing 3/2 key combos and releasing them in the same order. This seems to cause problems with xbindkeys and sxhkd (the only two key-binding daemons I've used before) as using the Super-c combo expects the Windows key to be pressed first, followed by the c key being pressed and released. How can I bind gestures to the above? Is it possible, for example, to bind keys to a specific input device (so for example I can bind to the letter c but only from the mouse, not from my keyboard)? Or something involving xmodmap? Thanks for your advise/help.

Can this patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=33142 be applied to Arch's xorg? It solves famous problem https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 with broken keyboard input for users who use multiple keyboard layouts without any noticeable side-effects. [arch-general] at times when booting system-logind fails and system hangs

I haven't identified under which circumstances, when booting the system hangs, and the only thing that can be related to that is the message: Failed to start Login Service Of course the recommendation to see the output of: systemctl status systemd-logind.service Is useless when that happens. That because the system hangs. A phisical hard power down is what I've done, and then usually by starting the system again everything works. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestion? [arch-general] PKGBUILD inheritance

Hi I want to make PKGBUILD for kernel in AUR with enabled options that I need. I did #ABSROOT=. abs core/linux fixed config and I'm good, but to keep it updated with core/linux I need to do it all the time (load latest core/linux, fix the config, rebuild). Is there some tools/mechanisms to make a PKGBUILD that will do it automatically? Thanks

This seems to be a regression. A downgrade of the two packages gvfs (1.24.1-1 -> 1.22.3-2 ) gvfs-smb (1.24.1-1 -> 1.22.3-2) remedies this problem. [arch-general] Upgrading from linux 4.0.0 to 4.0.1 without reboot

Hello Arch users, I just upgraded to linux 4.0.1-1 in [core] from linux 4.0.0-2 in [testing]. In recent days, I've heard of lots of news that since kernel 4.0, no reboot is necessary for upgrading kernel. However, uname still gives me the old kernel version: $ uname -r 4.0.0-2-ARCH Is it necessary to run additional commands for completing kernel upgrading, or do I have to wait for some time?
