[arch-general] valgrind - memory exclusion files on the fritz?

All, valgrind is reporting an additional allocation and free along with and additional 1M of memory used. Below, 11 bytes should be allocated and freed. Instead valgrind reports 1035 bytes. (it's worse if you use strdup). [arch-general] snapcraft.io IMO gets across the message that snaps are appropriate for Arch Linux

Hi, after taking a brief look into building a yaml and following Ubuntu's Snapcraft mailing list, I don't have a good opinion of it. It at least is nothing I would recommend for usage with Arch Linux on i686 and x86_64 servers and desktop computers, not only because it requires an Ubuntu kernel patch [1], but because it IMO is completely against the rolling release approach and beyond that IMO broken in many ways. The first sentence on http://snapcraft.io/ is "Package any app for every Linux desktop, server, cloud or device, and deliver updates directly" and the first logo beside the Ubuntu logo is Arch Linux. My opinion is, that it would be better, if the Arch Linux logo would be removed from http://snapcraft.io/ , because I guess it gets across a wrong message. [arch-general] Nvidia backlight control - acpi_video0/brightness changes - display doesn't?

All, Laptop: HP 8760w, Quadro 3000M, nvidia-340xx packages. The driver works perfectly (no errors in Xorg.0.log), but I have no way to control the screen brightness. I've followed the suggestions in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA/Tips_and_tricks but I still have no backlight control. Using the laptop function keys, the values in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness are properly set, e.g. $ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness 8 (now tap the [func][F9], brightness lower, twice) $ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness 6 (actual_brightness value tracks brightness) $ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness 20 This works with OR without /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf: Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1" Does anyone have any suggestions on anything else to try before I start loading the aur nvidia-bl or nvidiabl packages? I don't mind adding more software, but if there are a few more tweaks to try before going that route, I would like to try them first. Hello everybody, Does some of you encount problems with `pacman-key --refresh-keys` like me? I can't refresh my keyring due to some strange error messages: gpg: invalid radix64 character 2E skipped gpg: [don't know]: invalid packet (ctb=11) gpg: read_block: read error: Invalid packet gpg: mpi larger than indicated length (2064 bits) The full output is here: https://paste.archlinux.de/DY6FC/ Any idea how to solve this issue? Hi all. I am wondering about a couple of things. I have been using orca for some time now, but wondering if espeak NG will be coming to arch community any time soon.. In the mean time, does any know if it is in the aur? Secondly I have yaourt installed and there are a few packages from the aur installed. What is the eaasyes way to keep the packages up to date. Is there a command through yaourt like sudo yaourt -Syu for example. I was reading about this in the arch wiki but did not find anything about how to do this offisiontly. [arch-general] ISO broken? Unable to boot from ISO burned to DVD.

Hello, I've freshly downloaded the ISO from the Arch Linux homepage and burned with: # cdrecord dev=/dev/cdrom -dao PATH_TO_ISO Booting from this hangs with waiting for some /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH... device. After waiting for this I get to some kind of "recovery console" missing most tools. /dev/disk/by-label doesn't exist at all in this minimalistic shell. Is it possible that booting from a device "by-label" just doesn't work for a DVD drive at all? Any way to fix this? Thanks in advance Manuel

Hi, cinnamon (and maybe other desktops/packages) seem to use libreadline.so.6 which was updated today to a new SONAME. There should be a fast update to load the SONAME=7 or the generic shared object with the next release to prevent failures like this: nullptr ~ % cinnamon & [1] 1111 cinnamon: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [1] + 1111 exit 127 cinnamon nullptr ~ % ls /usr/lib/libreadline.so completing files libreadline.so@ libreadline.so.7@ libreadline.so.7.0* nullptr ~ % LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libreadline.so cinnamon & The last command works. It would be nice to have a fast update for cinnamon and all other packages that don't use the generic libreadline.so Thank you! Sebastian
