Having downloaded the torrent and burned the iso to a dvd I verified the torrent using sha256sum but apparently that wasn't enough since the installation broke part of the way through which means I ought to have used the gpg verification that is available online. What is done with those asc files to verify a download? vbox dkms fix - How to include fix for linux, but not linux-lts?

All, Doug, A header include is requires for 6.4.12, but not for LTS. How do I modify the PKGBUILD to apply the change only when building the module for linux and not linux-lts. I chose a simple sed -i to include the needed header: # fix 6.4.11 include requirement sed -i 's|#include <linux/inetdevice.h>|&\n#include <net/gso.h>|' "${_extractdir}/src/vboxhost/vboxnetflt/linux/VBoxNetFlt-linux.c" The problem is that LTS doesn't like the additional include. I suspect it will take some makefile patch instead of a change of the source file so LTS can build without the new header. How best to do this? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Unicode issues after system upgrade

Hey hey, I just upgraded my system and upon restart, now running kernel 6.4.11-arch2-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC and everything else that was available one/two days ago. When I rebooted my computer today, I ran into UTF-8 issues. I use a braille display, running brltty, which apparnelty has also been updated to the next version. So I can't really tell, whether the improper display of characters is related to TTY settings or BRLTTY. I looked at /etc/local.conf, which is set to a UTF charset. Also the command locale displays that charset/locale. I looked at brltty to make sure that the Linux terminal parameter Unicode is set to yes. The locale is also present (locale-gen). Any ideas what this could be? Some change in the terminal settings? Any hints and tips are appreciated! Linux 6.4.12 Breaks Virtualbox 6.1.46 DKMS Build

Install a package to alternative location

Hey hey, my system partition is as good as full, so I wonder if there is a safe method to install packages to alternative locations. The packages in question are android-studio-system and android-ndk. Extending the system partition is unfeasible. Yes, it is bad planning. kernel 6.4.11 bug prevents boot on some hardware

Sharing in case this helps others. Also posted to arch forum: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=288095 There is a bug with the rtsx driver in 6.4.11 that prevented 1 machine from booting. It presented in my case as NVME failure, thus preventing machine from booting. 6.4.10 is fine. The hardware that triggers this is in my case is: 03:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTS525A PCI Express Card Reader (rev 01) Solution: A work around is simply to blacklist the driver (its only a card reader). i.e. Add blacklist rtsx_pci blacklist rtsx_pci_sdmmc to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_rtsx.conf rebuild the initramfs so that the blacklist gets put into it. Access to unix socket files

Hi, while scripting around ssh-agent(8), I noticed that on Arch a non-privileged user is not able to get any information on active unix domain sockets - not even her own. I tried fuser(1), lsof(8) and sockstat(1). While the lsof(8) man page hints at requiring 'setuid root' on some OSes, that doesn't make a difference, nor does it for the other two tools. You appear to only get information on domain sockets as root. Is this behaviour intended? It is certainly not documented. A Debian 11 machine I tried behaves differently, as do NetBSD, FreeBSD and OmniOS. What is the rationale for this default? And how can I change it? Failed to boot after latest pacman -Syu

Since vconsole-setup isn't run, I can't login. Removing vconsole.conf had no effect. vconsole-setup is invoked by udevd, so I can't disable it (not that I want to). No other services appear to start after this failure (like lightdm). I'm stumped. Any thoughts on how to fix this? TIA, Dave

Something going wrong with Firefox 116.0.2

I was using Firefox and suddenly there was something wrong with it: I can't switch the tabs. I found that Firefox has taken over 2GB of memory, while I've just opened three tabs (A circuit simulator, a local file, and a music website and none of it could take such memory)! I rebooted, but the problem is still there. It was okay at the beginning , but when I was trying to switch the tabs, the monitor showed that the memory suddenly grew from 269MB to 1.8GB. (versions: Mozilla Firefox 116.0.2, Latest Arch Linux 6.4.10 on x86-64 laptop) Omg, while I was writing this post I didn't close Firefox and now it takes 7.4GB of memory, and STILL GROWING!! Now 11.1GB Of course there's a memory leak. -- Ruiyang Peng
