[arch-general] Installing Archlinux on a Panasonic toughbook U1

Since my thread on the forums did not got very much attraction here it goes, I have a Panasonic Touchbook CF-U1 for those who not to care to read the link its a rugged small pc with an Intel Atom in it. The machine will have 2 main uses: - Replace the laptop on my garage, (i like to mess with mechanic stuff on my spare time, mostly offroad machines) it will be used to view some pdf (service manuals and whatnot) and use tunning software and logic analizyer so on, i would be running it on an external keyboard. - Onboard computer on my offroad truck, I plan to use the GPS for navigation proposes and as data logger of the engine Electronic managemnte system. And maybe some light work on those sunny days where I feel like working outside (have you tried using your laptop on the sunlight ? it sucks). I am a tiller wm lover (DWM and AwesomeWM) but I don't think a tller would be the most idicated, I would love a mix of normal wm with a touchscreen friendly interface. Something like the Asus EEE pc 701 (the first one) had that modded Ice VW menu. I did not tried to install the system yet, but I started the live disk, and these are my first toughts: - Wireless works out of the box - Fn key does not work (extremely necessary) - Dual battery leds do not work, it does not show which battery is using, it shows the led that is connected to the AC power, the batterie management seems to work fine tough. - The accessorie keys do not work, altough I think i can fix that with setkeycodes, not really important right now. I will use full system encryption according to the wiki, just because I want to, that should be a problem. I want to collect as much information as possible before tackling the installation. [arch-general] What file provides the links shown by Firefox's "speed dial"

Hi, from backups I want to find former links that were shown by Firefox's "speed dial" (or what ever it's named) and that never where pinned. Before I search backups, I want to know where to find the entries in the current Firefox files. I had no success when taking a look at e.g. $ sqlitebrowser ~/.mozilla/firefox/ihwxvng5.default/places.sqlite Does anybody know where to look? Does anybody know a sqlite browser that could sort moz_places and other data by anything else instead of the id? Regards, Ralf

[arch-general] ThinkPad LEDs

Hi folks, Does anybody know what's happened with ThinkPad LEDs control? I used to use the /proc/acpi/ibm/led interface to control LEDs, but now (just installed Archlinux on a T430) I see that only 2 LEDs work, trying to control others brings up "No such device" message. The working LEDs are: 0 - the power button, 7 - the moon symbol. Kernel: 3.12.9-2. Thanks for ideas! Sergey

Hello everyone, Sorry to bother you, but is it me, or is Alderaan no longer providing HTTP/HTTPs service ? I cannot access the Arch Linux wiki anymore, and it doesn't seem to be related to my network configuration (http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/wiki.archlinux.org) Have I missed some maintenance announcement, or something similar ? Apologies for the inconvenience, if it is the case. JWHS.

Hey folks, I mostly use Gentoo but I'm installing Arch on my laptop, so hello! I'm installing GRUB, an I'm getting an error: grub-install: waring: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible. Then Grub refuses to go ahead with blocklists. Any thoughts? It isn't a UEFI computer... it's a netbook. Thank you! -- - Toyam

[arch-general] Updating the archlinux-keyring package

Hi, Recently I had to fix a corrupted pacman db from a 3 month old livecd and realized that this process is not so innocent. Specifically, there is a chance to get a trojaned package on the system simply because the archlinux-keyring package on the iso is outdated. Of course, other similar scenarios are possible, e.g. a fresh install is made from an old livecd, or a server is updated after several months of uptime: new packages are pulled in but signature checks are made using the old keyring currently on the host. So, instead of relying on the discrete updates of archlinux-keyring, wouldn't is make more sense to have a systemd timer/cron job to frequently refresh pacman keyring? I have moved ~/.vim to ~/.config/vim, the configuration is as follows: in ~/.profile: export VIMINIT='let $MYVIMRC="$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/vim/vimrc" | source $MYVIMRC' in ~/.config/vim/vimrc: set viminfo+=n$XDG_CACHE_HOME/vim/viminfo set runtimepath=$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/vim,$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/vim/after,$VIM,$VIMRUNTIME Now, the thing is that files from ~/.config/vim/ftdetect/ are not respected. On the other hand, if I create ~/.vim/ftdetect/ (leaving the vimrc and everything else under ~/.config), the files are correctly sourced. Is this a bug or am I missing something here? According to ':help ftdetect' the runtimepath should be respected. [arch-general] KDE breakage with glibc 2.19-2

Is anyone else seeing breakage of KDE compositing with glibc 2.19-2? Large areas are unrendered: window contents and the plasma desktop are black, although my panel is visible. Seems OK when I turn of compositing. I've tried going back and forth, and it's definitely the glibc update that's causing the issue for me. Anyone else? Paul

Hello all, Does anyone know of any standard system for receiving notifications from systemd for unit state changes? I currently use Monit for the monitoring of many processes, and it'll e-mail me when things happen (e.g. a process was restarted). Since switching to systemd, it's felt a bit silly that for several processes, I'm having Monit monitor them simply because systemd is unable to tell me it restarted a unit. Monit isn't actually required to keep those processes alive as it once was, because systemd can do that. Paul
