[arch-general] Screen locking problem in KDE

Hello guys, Please give me advice - how can i debug problem with screen locking in KDE? I don't find any similar problems in arch forums/mailing lists. This problem appeared after update. Standart Ctrl+Alt+L doesn't work, plasma applet (screen lock) doesn't work too. -- Best regards, Dmitry Korzhevin

[arch-general] howto only rebuild changes from existing source with makechrootpkg?

Guys, Is it possible to change and rebuild only a part of a large package with makechrootpkg instead of having to build the entire package every time there is a small change? Specifically, I'm working on the kio_sftp part of kdebase. Once I build the entire kdebase package and it is in the chroot, I would like to be able to only rebuild the changes made to the kio_sftp code instead of having to rebuild the entire kdebase package. Something like (makepkg --noextract) so that only the new/changed code is rebuilt from the existing code in ${srcdir}/${pkgname}. It's just the ability to cut down the build time I'm looking for. Is this doable with makechrootpkg? If so, what is the best way? Subpackage? Pass --noextract somehow? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Hello, I found nice workaround, when i try to debug problem with krunner, kscreensaver, etc.. Next steps solve this problem without downgrading to previous version of Qt: 1. Sync abs tree from root 2. Go to /var/abs/extra/kdebase-workspace 3. Edit PKGBUILD and change: -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release to -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug 4. Same for /var/abs/extra/kdelibs 5. [arch-general] battery charges only 49%

Hello, I have a notebook lenovo G470 recently realized that the battery only charges up to 49% searched the wiki and found that there is a software called ts_mapi, he is not installed, but my computer is behaving as if estivese with the software installed. There was some-changing or updating the kernel that could have enabled this feature of the battery? Could someone help me?

Hi all, I searched around with no help so if you can help out: I am trying to renice the user bash on Login. So every time someone logs through SSH to the server to get a lower priority than normal. Is that possible? Is it a good idea in general? Hi, the fortune-mod package is orphan <https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/fortune-mod/>, so we could use an alternative fortune program. I suggest using the Fefe's fortune program with my patch <http://fgr.bitbucket.org/im/fortune/index.html>. An archive of fortune cookies is available at <fgr.bitbucket.org/im/fortune/fortune-fefe-fortunes.tar.xz> (just copy all the content within the directory "/usr/share/fortune/". it's like <http://packages.debian.org/sid/fortunes> it includes my fortune files as well). Warning: I don't ROT13 the offensive quotes. There are 27,584 messages (counted by the command: grep -R '^%$' * | wc -l) Regards

[arch-general] virtualbox-modules-lts?

I see there's a virtualbox-modules package, but that's for the mainline (3.2 series) kernel. I don't see a similar package for the LTS (3.0 series) kernel. Does one exist somewhere that I'm missing it? If not, how does one use virtualbox on Arch with the LTS kernel? Do we need to build the kernel module from source by hand? Thanks, DR

[arch-general] Recent network issues on one of my computers

After a bit of fiddling with systemd I now seem to have one of my systems back in working order, but not the second. They were of course both fully working before the recent systemd issues. They are fairly similar in setup (only difference, besides HW, is one uses LVM and the other doesn't). However, on one I have a fully functioning network, and on the other it's only half-functioning. The problem is I don't really know where to start looking for solving this. By "half functioning" I mean: 1. I get an IP via dhcp, using wicd. Wireless network. 2. I can make full connections (SSH) to other computers on the local networkd (using IP and mdns both work). 3. I can ping www.google.com and it looks like this: $ ping www.google.com PING www.l.google.com (209.85.173.104) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from lpp01m01-in-f104.1e100.net (209.85.173.104): icmp_req=1 ttl=55 time=36.4 ms 64 bytes from lpp01m01-in-f104.1e100.net (209.85.173.104): icmp_req=2 ttl=55 time=33.6 ms ... However, what I can't do is point chromium to www.google.com and get it to download the page. Chromium says DNS lookup fails. Pacman fails stating the same reason. Point 3 above suggests resolve.conf is correct, and it is indeed pointing to the wireless router like it's supposed to.
