[arch-general] power management problems Gnome 3.4 from testing

Hi all, My problem is that there is no battery indicator in the top panel anymore. I did: [gordy@archbox ~]$ dmesg | grep battery [ 11.595405] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present) So I know the battery is present. Also the laptop wont suspend anymore when I close the lid. The system is completely updated. Thanks for any help, Gordy info: Gnome 3.4 all updated with Testing enabled.

[arch-general] Parallels 7 Tools

I just installed Arch in Parallels 7 following the beginner's guide on the wiki. Went great and I'm up and running (without xorg so far). I want to install the Parallels Tools but I'm having some problems. I've mounted the tools but the install script is failing with a rather generic error "Some components are missing, do you want to try and download?" -> "Installer cannot detect package manager...". I found the wiki page for Parallels ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Parallels) but it isn't helping me so far. Has anyone gotten this to work? Any help would be great. Hey There, I've installed an Arch Linux server in our office for serving files over the network via Bonjour/avahi. All computers are connected to an ADSL modem via wireless. Only the server is connected via LAN. [arch-general] how many virtual machines

hello I currently host my personal webpage from a virtual machine at my house. I am looking to add a mailserver as well as an irc server. however I don't know if I should be using a separate vmachine for each service. I am more concerned about security than resource use. however the publicly reachable IP I have is through an external vpn provider (i believe it is strong vpn). any ideas suggestions would be appreciated.

[arch-general] Lock at shutdown with some kernels

Hello, I've been using Arch 64 for a year or so, and I remember several times (roughly 5) I have shutdown issues with the latest kernel (at the time). The system is locked at shutdown, I can do nothing but to press the power button to force a power off. I am very sure it is locked --- NumLock doesn't even respond. And it doesn't return to tty as it would otherwise. It came to me again. This time I decided to have linux-lts installed. I'm curious, why is the problem always about shutdown? Is this bug from upstream or Arch patches? I don't have other distros installed by now though. Btw, how does linux-lts differ from linux? I found the -lts one boots very slow for me, got stuck at "Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed" for quite some time, around 30 sec. With linux it's similar, but not so long. I have this issue when I use vga_switcheroo, to switch between Intel graphics and ATI card. [arch-general] Can you test machine to set --jobs[=N] from w/i PKGBUILD?

Guys, Is there any way to check the number of cores on a machine to set the number of jobs within a PKGBUILD?: make -j'X' I have some dual-core and some quad-core boxes and the difference between -j2 and -j4 on build time is tremendous. However, for generically creating a source package to be used by someone else, I can't hardcode the jobs number. Anyway to test in pkgbuild or is this just a per box makepkg.conf issue? -- David C. [arch-general] Note on Trinity R14 (3.5.14)

Guys, There will be an upcoming release of TDE 3.5.14 in the next few months and I have worked to update the build system for Arch. All packages below are building on current libraries. The only AUR base package utilized is HAL. I will update the wiki with current information after the remaining PKGBUILD development is complete. Many bugs have been fixed and enhancements added. The desktop is significantly faster than 3.5.10, 3.5.12 or 3.5.13 without any additional bloat. See trinitydesktop.org for the latest info.
