Hi lads, Can I selectively install apackage from [testing] repo or do I have to uncomment it in pacman.conf, update database, install it and then comment it again? Is there a way to install it more quickly/with less messing around with conf file? I do not have access to my arch box for a few weeks now but started to wonder... Thanks, Greg.

Hello, I became recently interested in Vala, and I did several experiments to try interfacing it with libalpm. Vala is an object-oriented language created to be used mainly with glib2/gtk, and writing Vala bindings is especially lightweight : it is only a matter of writing a "dictionary" between C functions and methods. I think it might be a nice alternative to C when writing small command line or GTK utilities. I have put an example of how the C version of pactree would be written in Vala, at http://github.com/remyoudompheng/libalpm-vala Memory management is especially tricky, as I am new to Vala, and not very familiar with the internals of libalpm. So for the moment, only a very small set of functions are wrapped and this version of pactree does not segfault. Feel free to make any comments. Regards, Rémy.

With last update of libx11 my touchpad initialises as a ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse. Hi, just out of curiosity: What is the application doing this output called? Is it available for the public? I guess it is, so could you point me to the right direction please? Another thing that would be quite interesting: How long does it take to run it, and how much of RAM does it take? And is actually anyone going to fix these issues, or do we have to live with them :)? [arch-general] how to perform selected gnome installation with pacman?

I'd like to install GNOME for my freshly installed base system following instructions provided on this page 'https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ GNOME#Base'. As you can see it reads: "Install the base GNOME desktop" # pacman -S gnome And then: "This is a meta-package; which is a group of packages. An option will be given to install all or some of the packages in this group." When I run the command above, the list of all files in group is displayed and the only option given to me is to answer Y/N to install the entire list of packages, that I would like to avoid. I've read through man pacman carefully a couple of times and I've not found any option allowing to filter out undesirable file/s while installing a group. Tried to search arch wiki without any success. Could anybody provide me with a hint here, please?
