[aur-general] AUR not aware of changes in the regular repos

Hi, recently, I've been alerted by a user of one of my packages to the fact that one direct dependency and several dependencies down the tree are no longer available in the regular repos. However, they are not marked in the usual way in the AUR UI (disabled link, bold, red) and when I tried to push the affected package to the AUR, I get denied, 'cause AUR still thinks it's available in the regular repos: remote: error: package already provided by [community]: python2-beautifulsoup4 remote: error: hook declined to update refs/heads/master I suspect the aurblup script stopped working/being called, but I'm not familiar with the codebase, so I'm not able to investigate/fix further. An example: python2-lxml is no longer available, but nothing changed on the AUR package page for mailpile. Thanks, Daniel Peukert

I'd like to ask, if possible, to delete the last commit (only last one) from the following two packages, which i maintain: 1) ruby-pg-query (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ruby-pg-query/) 2) ruby-sqlint (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ruby-sqlint/) I pushed those commits with my work git user info and I would like to push them again with my personal user info. Hi, on March 18th I tried to register for AUR to submit my own package (with this email). However, I did not receive any confirmation email. I waited for a week to see if anything comes and looked in all folders of my email. Is there anything I can do? (I can't re-register with the same email) Thanks, Michal

I am not sure if this is the right list to report the situation here. I am the maintainer of minetest-git, and Minetest uses its own Irrlicht fork after its latest release (i.e. the PKGBUILD from the official repo does not include any changes regarding the Irrlicht fork), so I would like to know: 1) Whether I should keep the Irrlicht fork in the same package as minetest-server-git and minetest-git by statically linking the Irrlicht library (which I chose to do for now) 2a) (If I statically link the Irrlicht library into the Minetest binaries) What to use for the version number, as the version of both Minetest and the Irrlicht fork should (in my opinion) be reflected 2b) (If I put the Irrlicht fork into a separate package) The name of the package for the Irrlicht fork Yangjun Wang

[aur-general] Repackaging a single binary from a package in the repos - dvisvgm from texlive-bin

Hello everyone. I recently came across a bug in dvisvgm [0] and contacted the developer about it. He was able to tell me that my issue was already fixed in the newest upstream version [1]. Currently, dvisvgm is installed as a part of extra/texlive-bin. However, TexLive (and as such the dvisvgm version that is distributed with it) only gets updated once a year [2][3], so the currently obtainable version of dvisvgm has this bug until at least April. I was wondering how I'd go about submitting a PKGBUILD that installs a single binary from texlive-bin. As far as I know, no texlive package relies on this specific version of dvisvgm (or any version of it, since it's only an auxiliary binary), so overwriting the existing version on the system shouldn't be a problem. Another issue I faced is that dvisvgm depends on texlive-bin, but also should overwrite the /usr/bin/dvisvgm that is installed through texlive-bin. How would I go about submitting this PKGBUILD? [aur-general] unable to complete registration on aur

I signed up for an account today on aur, and after I clicked the link in my email. I believed the username was correct and it said it wasn't. So next I tried the email copy and pasted it from the email I received. The website kept telling me either invalid email or username. I tried typing them. Copying and pasting them to no avail. Hi, could an AUR moderator please add a pinned comment to https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/electron9 . The comments get spammed by AUR helper users and Manjaro users with unreasonable comments. Dear Manjaro users aquatic7, if you are puzzled about something, consider to read the comments first and if this shouldn't clarify it for you, consider to use a support channel of the distro you are using. See https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/electron9/#comment-796026 , you are building blowatware, nothings is broken, so there's nothing to fix. Building bloatware can take very long. I'm subscribed (FWIW I'm just another user, not the maintainer) to receive comments to get informed about real issues and it's quite annoying to receive only comments from people using unsupported tools and/or alien disros again and again. Hi, During the first COVID lockdown, I published an AUR package for a libinput pull-request: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libinput-accel-profile-git/ Since then, the PR has been merged and released as part of libinput 1.16.0. Moreover, the PKGBUILD seems to be invalid too (yay fails to install the package). Should I still maintain this package or ask for a deletion? If I have to maintain it, is there a way to mark it as deprecated, redirecting users to the libinput community package? Kind, Alexis

Dear Arch users, I have a big collection of wallpapers on gitlab. My friends suggested that I submit it to the AUR. I have created a PKGBUILD according to PKGBUILD-VCS.proto but my package doesn't update when I add a new wallpaper to it on my gitlab. I noticed that this aur package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/masterpdfeditor-libs-included/ Seems to have it's version rolled back and is now stuck on a version that still works with some keygen that's used to activate the program. That doesn't seem like it should be happening. (the latest version is 5.7.20 like the original package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/masterpdfeditor/ ) Cheers

Hi, It's been months since I've used those packages and I feel they should be maintained by someone who actively uses them. Build times for those varies between 15 and 60+ minutes hour on my 12 core /24 threads threadripper 1920x system. The new maintainer should have access to a powerful system or be willing to accept very long build times. Is anyone interested in taking over maintenance ? Lone_Wolf

Hi, Recently I received a notification message that a package I was co-maintainer from had changed ownership. I looked at aur-requests archive and saw the orphan request was filed on Sat Jan 2 09:42:38 UTC 2021. The request was accepted on Sat Jan 2 09:42:38 UTC 2021 or within a second ! I checked https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR_submission_guidelines#Requests which states > Orphan requests will be granted after two weeks if the current > maintainer did not react. The immediate acceptance has made it impossible for the maintainer / co-maintainers to respond. Is the wiki incorrect wrt policy for orphan requests ? If so, where is the correct policy described ? I'm currently studying software engineering and working as a backend developer at a social media startup. I like to work my way through the software world by getting involved in open source projects [0] and trying to create unique and interesting tools. It's my hobby/job to work on Linux specific software so I can say that I'm getting more familiar with Linux concepts in general as time goes. In the meantime, I'm trying to get a grip on Arch Linux specific topics like its build system since it's the main distribution that I use/learn for years. Thus, I package & maintain the software that I like/use in AUR [1] for experiencing different scenarios and learning new techniques. It's also important for me to engage with the community and get involved in events when I'm able to. One example would be this year's Arch Conf which I recapped the things I learned about packaging Rust applications [2]. So I'd like to keep learning new things and be useful at the same time by becoming a Trusted User for taking a role in AUR and maintaining community packages as every Trusted User does. In the long term, I believe that I can contribute to the Arch projects as I gain experience and knowledge by working in the field. EXPERIENCE Although I mostly use Rust and Go recently, I have worked with languages like C, Python, and Java in the past. I believe that the words about "knowing" a programming language is cheap so it's strongly encouraged to check the projects that I write with them. Since the general mantra in software development is "learn by practice", it's likely for me to learn a new technology by using it. Apart from those, I often write shell scripts to manage various things in my system [3] such as the semi-automation of releasing a new version of a package in AUR or performing system-related trivial tasks. Briefly, I can say that I'm fluent in Rust, Go, C, and still sharpening my shell scripting skills. PROJECTS/CONTRIBUTIONS I'd like to plug some of the open source projects that I wrote over the years as a reference to the previous section: - kmon: Linux kernel manager and activity monitor [4] - menyoki: Screen{shot,cast} and perform ImageOps on the command line [5] - pkgtop: Interactive package manager and resource monitor [6] - zps: A small utility for listing and reaping zombie processes [7] Contributing to the tools/libraries that I use is something that I do from time to time for adding particular features or fixing specific bugs [8]. But recently I have been contributing to the open source projects based on my activities on AUR. Mostly I'm trying to share my ideas and propose some fixes that I discovered while working on the upstream [9]. HOW CAN I HELP? I'm aiming to turn my motivation and enthusiasm in regards to the Arch Linux project into professional and valuable contributions since I learn fast and adapt to the changes quickly. My first step towards that goal was to start maintaining packages in AUR and I still do due to the fact that I feel like I should somehow give back to the community. I think the packaging is an interesting topic and I'm experiencing/learning new things by doing it. And I believe that I'm at a point in my life that I can take such responsibilities regardless of how challenging the tasks are. I can also manage my priorities and time well for taking a role as a Trusted User. Although I want to help with the essential duties like keeping an eye on AUR (reviewing requests, looking into security issues, etc.) and maintaining packages in the community repository, I should also say that one of my goals for the future is to develop Arch Linux specific projects and contribute to the existing ones. I'm sure that I'll get to the point where I have enough context and experience quickly with the help of the rest of the team if the application succeeds. So that's why I believe becoming a Trusted User and helping out on the packaging issues is definitely a good place for me to start contributing more concretely to the Arch Linux project.
