[aur-general] Maintaining the mediathek package

Hi TUs, I can't contact the maintainer of mediathek [1], because his mail address is wrong/not working anymore. The last update is four months old. There has been two updates released, during this time. Can you drop the maintainer (linopolus), so that I can maintain this packege? Also the mediathekview package [2] is imho obsolete. I do not expect to happen the switch of most upstream python projects to the 3-branch within next five to twn years, if ever. python3 may be an improvement over python2 in the sense of a clean language. Hey everybody, I'd like to apply for TU. I tricked Daenyth into sponsoring me. Rocking since 1990 in Germany, I've been using Arch Linux for around two years now and since I seem to stick with it I thought I might as well become TU. I have past experience in Suse, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and DSL as well as a few minor ones (mostly spin-offs). I currently have about 10 Arch installations in all kinds of forms, virtual, chroot, desktop, laptop, incandescent gas. Whenever I'm not busy trying to create another cdrkit vs. cdrtools flame fest on the mailing list I'm generally trying to be helpful on the wiki, forums, IRC and AUR. I like being pedantic about things like replaces() vs. conflicts() + provides() or $startdir/src vs. $srcdir. In AUR I currently maintain 66 packages. My most important packages are multimedia/game development related though I tend to package whatever I think it useful or fun. While I'm aware that many Archers consider games wasteful in terms of time investment and disk space, I think the number of votes on my packages still make some of them same valid candidates for [community]. I'm somewhat involved or at least interested in the upstream development for some of my packages (SFML, Ogre3D, SFML, Gobby, Bullet, Box2D, -gallium). I like trying out new fancy things. I've used all major DEs and a bunch of WMs. I maintain my own live distribution closely based on Arch Linux and archiso (live.linux-gamers.net) and in the process of creating it wrote the archiso article for the wiki. I care about guidelines and consistency, though I am aware that my AUR packages aren't all fully consistent. Working on that. On LinuxTag 2010, I openly promoted my religion using my Arch shirt together with a fellow Archer. We tried our best to sound like the condescending Arch jerks that we are. Just kidding. We showed-off Arch to quite a few people who were interested, though. We met quite a few unrelated Archers on the fair as well but they didn't seem to have as much Arch-esteem as we did. [aur-general] Inactive for a bit...

I've got to go inactive for a bit...I'm moving from Illinois to Washington state and won't have the internet for a couple of weeks while I'm travelling. The only thing I have pending right now is an update to Tarsnap v1.27, and I plan on moving it into the community repo. I also have a couple packages still on the arch todo list that I'll take care of when I return. I've already updated the Trusted Users wiki page to show my status. Since the original uploader used a different name (conky-forecast) I uploaded a new package using the official name of the project, to avoid confusion (searching the AUR for conkyforecast will now show the stable version and the development one). It isn't required by any packages, it's an orphan, it's out-of-date, even though it isn't flagged, and doesn't build because the source somehow got removed from the community svn repo (or never made it there) The missing source is part of http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/19039 FS#19039 - [many packages] missing sources, .install in source array. I want to bring attention to the following packages: flashrom-dev - http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30391 flashrom-svn - http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23390 flashrom-svn-new - http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36865 They all build flashrom from the same svn repo. The second package was the first one uploaded to AUR, but it have been last updated 25 Aug 2009 and doesn't contain libftdi dependence. I think we should remove flashrom-dev and flashrom-svn-new and keep flashrom-svn (it has more votes after all). I did not contact the maintainer of the second package, but judging by the last date he updated his packages (25 Aug 2009), hopes that he will come and update flashrom-svn aren't big at all. So I suggest orphaning the package as well. Thanks in advance. P.S.: should we even keep a possibly unstable version of an utility that may erase your BIOS is another question (:

The inkscape-nognome package (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13145) is obsolete, does not work (it depends on libpoppler 0.12, current is 0.14) and is also not needed either because inkscape on [Extra] does not depend on gnome anymore. Thus I think it is safe to remove it. Thank you !

[aur-general] Dangerous package - requesting temporary removal

I'm requesting that "libcamp-git" (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38213) be removed for the time being. The packager appears to be inexperienced and currently MAKING the package results in pollution of the user system if the user has root permissions. If not, the package fails to build. I notified the maintainer in the comments and I'm unsure if I'm being unfair by already bringing this up on the mailing list since he appears to be inexperienced but what the package does is rather dangerous. -- Sven-Hendrik
