Hi all, [most of] AIF's user interface code has been moved into it's own project: http://github.com/Dieterbe/libui-sh http://projects.archlinux.org/aif.git/commit/?id=05e95cfbcad5965df5dc2c7e98… since aif will obviously depend on this new project and aif is in extra, this means i will have to create a new package in extra for this library. (very simple package btw, one file in /usr/lib and one in /usr/share/doc/libui-sh/) first however, i need to check if the code still behaves as it should. Dieter

I wanted to ask about how others treat patching. My understanding of our patching philosophy is: 1) Don't patch if doing so makes us un-vanilla. Users familiar with the standard behavior of software should be able to rely on our packaged versions to behave the same way. 2) If there's some major roadblock (crash, hang, data loss, chronic incompatibility), apply a reasonable patch as a workaround, as long as this kind of patch for this kind of problem has not been rejected upstream. Report the bug and patch upstream, and remove the patch from our package when upstream integrates a fix. 3) We don't maintain upstream software; we should not do a lot of work to patch unmaintained software. Is this a good summary? Or do others have differing views on some of this? Things to add? - P

What did whoever commited this smoke? It must have been very good: http://repos.archlinux.org/wsvn/packages/?op=comp&compare[]=%2Fopenssh%2Ftr… Whenever you want to do /etc/rc.d/sshd restart remotely, it will kill your ssh session. It is an important feature of openssh that all ssh connections stay OPEN even if you kill the master server. With this change, you will get kicked and goodbye remote server.

This new packages reverts the commit that introduces this bug: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18611 By this http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/17138 has to be reopened. We can either ignore this or find a real way to fix this issue. I don#t think that pidof should be used on its own. I also update to the new upstream release. So please give it a try and sign- off. Hi, has anyone succeeded in having /boot on a lvm volume, or a mdadm raid device, which grub2 can directly boot from it? If yes please give me some advice how to do it, i want to add full grub2 support to archboot setup and the docs are quite messy. I haven't found a way to do such a setup. [arch-dev-public] Rebuild list scripts

Hi, I know of at least three of us that have written rebuild list scripts. Can we get a common one into devtools or something? I posted one here a long time ago. See: http://allanmcrae.com/scripts/rebuildlist . There is also a script that tries (and fails) to give a rebuild order: http://allanmcrae.com/scripts/rebuildorder . It parses "pacman -Si <pkg>" to get deps so misses makedeps altogether... Or could we get something running on gerolde. It could be efficient and create a list of needed libraries for each package which is then updated via a cron job. Then generating a rebuild list would be a grep and could even be down automatically through the TODO list interface... Allan

Hi, I just added a rebuild list gmp-5.0 to the TODO lists. Note [community] needs scanned (libgmp.so). gmp-5.0 is labeled as a "performance release" while gmp-4.x is the "stable release". I still think upgrading to 5.0 is the Arch thing to do as "stable release" in this case means that the 4.x series is dead and all new features are in 5.0. This will not be happening for at least a week due to lack of time on my end to do the needed toolchain update/rebuild. Allan
