Can this patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=33142 be applied to Arch's xorg? It solves famous problem https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 with broken keyboard input for users who use multiple keyboard layouts without any noticeable side-effects. Hey everyone, I'm trying to get my laptop backlight keys (fn+f6/f7) to adjust the brightness of my toshiba laptop backlight. Previously, I had entered the following in my /etc/acpi/handler.sh to handle the acpi events generated when those keys were pressed: video/brightnessdown) echo $(($(cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness) -1)) > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness ;; video/brightnessup) echo $(($(cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness) +1)) > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness ;; However, as I am working on migrating to systemd, acpid no longer runs and hence does not handle these events. [arch-general] System doesn't load LVM volumes when booting in single user mode

Like the subject says, when I boot directly into single user mode, system doesn't load my LVM volumes. So the only way I can realistically use single user mode (since many of my key files are on LVM volumes) is to boot the system to multi-user mode, and the "telinit s" to drop back down to single user. This seems like an error, and that systemd should be starting LVM volumes even in single user mode. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be and/or a workaround? Thanks, DR

[arch-general] Incorporate udev rules in initrd

Hey guys, I set the sensitivity of my Thinkpad X230i laptop trackpoint with an udev rule setting the values in sysfs fitting for me. One drawback of this solution is that this rule I wrote is not incorporated inside of the intird, so when I start up, the udev of initrd already recognized the trackpoint and my rule in the booted-up system is ignored. My workaround for this is to manually do "udevadm trigger", which bugs the hell out of me. How can I tell mkinitcpio to include a custom udev rule? Do I need to write a hook for that? How can a hook for this look like? Thanks in advance! Christoph

[arch-general] Install problem

Hello, today I did a fresh install using the december release of the install media. Everything done 'to the book' (the install guide wiki page). Bootloader is syslinux. When booting the freshly installed system, I get the syslinux menu, select Archlinux or fallback, things seem to be normal for a few seconds then everything stops. After some time I get a message that /dev/sda3 (which is the / partition) can't be found and I'm dropped into an emergency shell. No LVM or RAID, just a single SATA disk with sda1 = /boot (100M, ext2) sda2 = swap (2G) sda3 = / (~250G, ext4) Partioning done with cfdisk. The mkinitcpio.conf used is the default one, which seems to have all required hooks. Everything in /boot/syslinux looks ok. Any hints ?? [arch-general] Troubles with ALSA

Hello all, I've been having problems with ALSA recently. Whenever I reboot my computer or wake it up from sleep, ALSA sets the volume of the speakers (and only the speakers) to zero. The headphones and master volume remain normal, but no sound will come from the speakers until I manually go into alsamixer and turn up the speaker's individual volume. I have an Intel integrated audio card, the 82801H HD Audio Controller. This only started recently and I am at a loss as to what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, J.
