[arch-general] [Classroom] The Beginner's Guide to Arch Linux package management

Eschwartz will be teaching a class "The Beginner's Guide to Arch Linux package management". As usual, the class will be taught in the #archlinux-classroom channel on irc.freenode.net. It will take place on Sunday, June 4 at 17:00:00 UTC, and last approximately 2 hours. This class is primarily focused on teaching the basic structure of PKGBUILDs: how to read/write/modify them, handle different source types, common errors and how to avoid them, and finally contribute them to the AUR for others to use. Everyone is welcome to join, as long as you follow the eminently fair rules in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Code_of_conduct. :) Prerequisites: * Have a basic knowledge of bash and shell commands in general. * The ability to use a text editor (e.g., nano, vim, emacs, gedit, Atom, etc.) Eschwartz is well known for his profusion of posts to the Arch Linux Fora, Mailing Lists, bugtracker, and IRC -- basically, anywhere that doesn't shut the door on him first. He has been an Arch user ever since he was introduced to Linux about four years ago, and has never looked back. He enjoys bash scripting, ebooks, and (apparently) referring to himself in third-person. -- Eli Schwartz

[arch-general] Mirrors not syncing?

None of the mirrors are listed as "successfully syncing mirrors", or even as "out of sync mirrors" for that matter. http://i.imgur.com/KW8Rmd9.png https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status/ Presumably it can't make a determination one way or another about their sync status since it's failing to connect to all of them?

[arch-general] Disable auto-detection of a specific monitor

Hello, I'd like to know if there's a possibility to disable the auto-detection of a specific monitor / output. I explain my case, i have three monitor & a KVM PCI-Passthrough setup for gaming. When i start my vm i turn off my principal monitor via a libvirtd hook and it switch to windows. My second screen have a KVM switch between arch GPU & Windows GPU Third screen only on arch. When i switch the KVM for the second screen, Xorg re-detect my primary screen and turn it On, but i can't see all my windows because the monitor is still switched on the Windows GPU. My arch GPU is a GTX980 running on proprietary drivers. Thank you Have a good day.

It would be my honor to do it if they accept image file............ :( OMG!? One pass is not enough!? Oh, look at the SILLY thing I've done!! BTW, switched to BTRFS last night. [arch-general] Where do you host your personal repository?

Good morning, It has been a few time since I am hosting packages on OpenSUSE OBS (Open Build Service). I find myself kinda good, but I have to tackle some problems it makes that I don't really like. So I wanted to ask to you where do you host your packages, if you have a private server or you take advantage of already present services. I was also wondering if some integration with Gitlab/Github could be possible. Hi, Guus. I've just run the memtest from archiso. Just passed, no error reported. So I'm afraid it has to be an fs bug or other hardware error... I'm looking forward to running a SMART test later. But the current Arch installation is on a Kingstom USB drive, is that okay with the SMART test? In fact, what confused me most now is why both pacman and fsck reported segmentation fault... It can't just be a coincidence, right? Oh, remembered one more thing. I tried to remove the gnome-extra group again this afternoon. The same error, the same output. More specifically, even exactly the same time the error happened (when attemptting to remove package telepathy-idle). Funny enough, Uhm? ;) Thx a lot! [arch-general] Ardour 5.6 released - status on update

Hey everyone, Not to be impatient, but Ardour had another update today to version 5.6, and the stable repo's only have version 4.7 and testing only has 5.4. Nearly a month ago Ray Rashif promised to get 5.4 pushed to stable before the end of the weekend, though that appears to have fallen by the wayside. No criticism to Ray, as I am aware that he is was devoted to this thesis defense, but I would really love to see this package updated as it is more than a year out of date at this point. -Britt
