[arch-general] Missing auth.log

Hi, One of our systems, running ARCH Linux, was compromised (a non-privileged account, fortunately). But, we could not find /var/log/auth.log or similar for investigation. Does the journal keep track of login attempts? It seems that ARCH does not run [r]syslogd. Best regards, Maxe kaasen(a)nuts-edu.no

[arch-general] NetBeans 9.0 not a drop-in replacement of 8.2

Hello, I'm not sure if this has to be brought up here, please advise. I have had many problems with netbeans package from community, it "upgraded" my old version of the package (was version 8.2), but it is not an adequate replacement. I'm aware of the bugs open in the tracker, and I thank everyone that provided workarounds to get the IDE working at first, then finally installing plugins correctly. However, the "new" version isn't complete yet, it lacks many of the "core" plugins that were available for 8.2, for example PHP (postponed to netbeans 10), JavaScript and C++ language support. I'm wondering what the correct procedure is in this case, if it were a commercial product,it would have reverted to 8.2 until it was ready. I don't have issues using it, I'm keeping it downgraded to 8.2, ignored in pacman.conf, I'm only asking if this is the correct approach for a repository package, since this is not AUR. [arch-general] Kernel 4.19 preventing Firefox from playing videos

Good evening, I have a very strange issue with kernel 4.19.1 With this kernel Firefox no longer plays any videos. It opens the page but the video wont play. It gets even worse when I open another tab. This will freeze Firefox though system load is ok. But I cannot kill Firefox, even logging off and on will keep it running in the background. Only way to stop it is a reboot and shutdown will take approx 10 to 15 mins for various stop jobs running. just downgraded to Kernel 4.18.19 and things are fine. I'm running Gnome on a Thinkpad X201. [arch-general] GnuCash out-of-date since 1 and half month

Hello, GnuCash has been flagged out of date since 1 Oct 2018. (new version 3.3) Bug report page says to report such issues to mailing list. So just wanted to report the same. Hope maintainers do look at it. I have built it for myself. It gave build error with current PKGBUILD. But I managed to build it with the following changes to PKGBUILD. - CXXFLAGS+=' -Wno-error' + CFLAGS+=' -Wno-error -Wno-error=stringop-truncation' + CXXFLAGS+=' -Wno-error -Wno-error=stringop-truncation' + CMAKE_C_FLAGS+=' -Wno-error -Wno-error=stringop-truncation' + CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS+=' -Wno-error -Wno-error=stringop-truncation' I am not sure which line actually worked but one of these worked. Hello folks . one of my rare visits to the mailing list I am having a small problem with my machine I recently Purchased an USB3 PCEe card with 2 usb3 ports on it 03:00.0 USB controller: NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 04) when i first installed this card it worked just fine then 2 days ago the Kernel was updated and i started getting [ 85.536166] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for new device state. Hi, This morning's `pacman -Su' had a problem building the fallback initcpio image for 4.14.79-1-lts. Yesterday's /var/log/pacman.log shows [2018-11-06 10:45] [ALPM] upgraded linux-lts (4.14.78-1 -> 4.14.79-1) [2018-11-06 10:45] [ALPM] running '60-linux-lts.hook'... [2018-11-06 10:45] [ALPM] running '90-linux-lts.hook'... that all went well. Today, package `linux-lts' wasn't upgraded but 90-linux-lts.hook was triggered. 60-linux-lts.hook wasn't. pacman's TTY output complained `error: command failed to execute correctly' and the list of `Running' build hooks didn't complete. [arch-general] Removal of ssmtp

Hey all, I have just removed ssmtp from [community]. Apart from it being unmaintained upstream, it has known security issues (e.g. [1]). I highly recommend _not_ using and removing it, in the case you have been using it. As replacements have a look at `pacman -Ss smtp-forwarder`.
