since a reboot/updates yesterday my /etc/resolv.conf has been getting wiped (when it happens I lose all dns). Hi :) Got a Cisco VPN connection with my office, but can't manage to get it running. I've seen that there's a: - vpnc package: installed it, but it doesn't import the .pcf file, says it can't find the file. - cisco-vpnclient: but it's out-dated I've been searching through the Wiki but haven't found any help on how to setup a Cisco VPN connection to my office. Anyone have a link or some tips they could share? [arch-general] Where can I find the "boot" log to find out what failed on boot?

Listmates, Seems like a simple question, but I've searched /var/log and can't find a file that contains the boot history showing all the "fail" messages during boot. For some reason after the latest update, my i686 box showed a half dozen or so "fail" messages. I need to find the log of what died. The upside to this? This was my i686 box that would no longer start kde after the next-previous set of updates. Now kde4 starts fine again. Whatever failed can't be that critical because the box is functioning fine, but I still want to find out what failed. If the file is in /var/log, then I just flat missed it. Listmates, How do I re-create a DVD from the backup created by vobcopy? I have searched and I have read howto after howto and I still am stuck. Between ffmpeg this, dvdauthor that, qdvdauthor this to, I'm confused. I have written a script to properly prepare the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories and to parse the filenames and copy the vob files saved with vobcopy to VTS_XX_Y.VOB and place them along with the IFO files in the VIDEO_TS directory. I get that I'm missing the BUP files and that somehow dvdauthor is supposed to recreate them, but that is where I get stuck. When I try and use qdvdauthor, it tries to completely ffmpeg decode/encode the original vob files to another separate directory. Why? I already have the vob files under VIDEO_TS, they were just ripped, why decode and reencode them? Seems nuts. Hi all, I'm currently searching for a PCI modem that will be used to receive faxes. I've tried out a few modems but they all use conexant chipsets, which need out-of-tree kernel drivers and currently doesn't work here (kernel oops when the installation script modprobes the driver). Does anyone know of a PCI modem that works out of the box with in-tree kernel drivers? Thanks, Glenn

Listmates, I have another newer package according to the last updates: :: Starting full system upgrade... warning: konq-plugins: local (4.2.95svn985376-1) is newer than kde-unstable (4.2.4-2) kde-unstable is before testing in pacman.conf. I am against this, as it adds redundancy and the starting can be avoided by renaming the file to something not ending on .conf. What do you think?

According to developer Cirrus, the relative volume adjusting method has been deprecated for 5 years. which is finally abandoned in the git version. (does anybody know why mpd in the repo hasn't been updated for sometime while stable 0.15.1 is around?) So anyone who uses mpc to bind a hotkey to shortcut such as "mpc volume -5" or "mpc volume +10" is likely to get a error from mpd. I've written a script to realize such functionality, please follow: http://dpaste.com/70907/ save it as script, chmod +x to it and put the relative values as parameter. E.g. Hi Devs :) The intention of this mail is to clarify the correct/current assignements of task in the bugtraker that are not related with packages from repositories. I think that the category "web page" includes many types of tasks: Webpage: Latest News/RSS/Downloads/Search feed and general webpage code @ Dusty Phillips, Simo Leone, ? Forum: @ ? Wiki: @ Loui Chang, ? Flyspray: @ Roman Kyrylych, ? New mirror: @ Dusty Phillips, Aaron Griffin, (*), ? Problem with torrents: @ ? Others?: @ ? (*) I think that also to Dan McGee, but he is currently working full on pacman. Also these other cases: What about orphaned packages? My current rule is assign to the latest packager or commiter, but what about if this removes himself from the assignement? Can be a FR o BR both are important, if nobody take it, should be reported to mailing list and moved to community, so a TU can adopt it? What about packages that are reported as non-working because compiled with old libs or other issues, fails to build, and still on repos for many weeks/months. Report the FS to the mailing list for removing or move to unsupported? That's all for now. Changes: - Updated to the 2.1 branch - Removed useless .install file - Moved plugins to /usr/lib/openvpn and made this the default plugin search path (i.e. plugins in that directory will be found when the plugin directive does is not an absolute path) - Moved example configuration to /usr/share/openvpn - Add openvpn rc.d script that launches an openvpn daemon for /etc/openvpn/*.conf and kills each openvpn with a pidfile in /var/run/openvpn/*.pid - Add openvpn-tapdev script that is to be added before the network script. It creates persistent tap devices as configured in /etc/conf.d/openvpn-tapdev that can be used for bridging. Tested on x86_64, please sign off.
