So you want to have vboxadd-service and vboxadd systemd services not starting on Linux kernel versions 4.15 and above? You can manage this by creating a template systemd unit /etc/systemd/system/kernel-version-less-then@.service ----------------------------------- [Unit] Description=Check if currently installed kernel version is less than target [Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/usr/bin/sh -c '[[ "$(/usr/bin/vercmp %i %v)" = "1" ]]' Restart=no CollectMode=inactive-or-failed [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target Then create the directories /etc/systemd/system/vboxadd.service.d/ /etc/systemd/system/vboxadd-service.service.d/ Then for each service /etc/systemd/system/vboxadd.service.d/kerver.conf ------------------------------------------------- [Unit] After=kernel-version-less-then(a)4.15.service Requires=kernel-version-less-then(a)4.15.service /etc/systemd/system/vboxadd-service.service.d/kerver.conf --------------------------------------------------------- [Unit] After=kernel-version-less-then(a)4.15.service Requires=kernel-version-less-then(a)4.15.service In this way, if my bash-fu is correct, the version compare will fail the kernel-version-less-then(a)4.15.service and vboxadd and vboxadd-service will not start Giacomo Longo

[arch-general] Can't connect to the Arch Linux website

Had this problem for a few days, first noticed when I tried searching for a package. my ip address is 172.7.224.99. Is there something going on or is it something from my end? only 2 things I could think of but seemed unlikely was that my server was sending spam (which would be bad because it would mean someone broke in, but I didn't notice anything in the logs) or from checking out the ABS tree from the git server, but I've been doing a shallow clone for the initial checkout (git clone --depth=1) and a shallow fetch for updates (git fetch --depth=1, followed by a git reset --hard) to try to avoid stressing out the git server. Was that still too much? Hello, I am trying to figure out how many packages there are. This includes, - [official packages](https://www.archlinux.org/packages/) - [aur packages](https://aur.archlinux.org/) - [arch32 packages](https://github.com/archlinux32/packages) On aur.archlinux.org there is a little box with some statistics and is says there are 44622 packages available, but I cannot find anything similar for the other two. I can't download and validate torrents with this package any longer. Also unless I'm misunderstanding the man page, jobs once backgrounded are left stopped with lftp and not continued in the background. The final problem I've found so far which is a real confidence shaker is transfer percentage never goes above 0% and this is after at least an hour in operation. --

[arch-general] konsole 17.12.1-2 question

Not sure when this started but seems to be after the last update. Everything works normally and then at some point, somehow Ctrl-P + Enter becomes a shortcut for a new konsole tab. You can see this in settings->manage profiles (shortcuts). I have 2 profiles - my own plus the default. It is the active one that now has the new shortcut. OF course this means that instead of command history from bash the window appears to freeze when typing Ctrl-P and then pressing enter creates a new tab. I have to manage profiles and then delete the shortcut and close and restart konsole. I am completely unable to find any shortcut/keyboard to make typing Ctrl-P become a konosole shortcut rather than passed through to bash editing. There is no documented shortcut to 'manage profiles' that I can find and it only started happening recently. Any suggestions how I can prevent this from happening? Thanks, gene

Did something change recently w.r.t this? I have smbd, postgresql, and squid all failing on me with the following error:- systemd[1]: smbd.service: Permission denied while opening PID file or unsafe symlink chain: /var/run/smbd.pid systemd[1]: postgresql.service: Permission denied while opening PID file or unsafe symlink chain: /var/lib/postgres/data/postmaster.pid systemd[1]: squid.service: Permission denied while opening PID file or unsafe symlink chain: /run/squid.pid The bug tracker only turns u #56966 and #56828 which both have to do with the 'nobody' user.
