[arch-general] Firefox crashes randomly

Hello! I have problem with randomly crashing Firefox 62.0 or single tabs in this browser on 64-bit Arch Linux system. Running Firefox in safe mode doesn't help. Resetting browser or removing folder ~/.mozilla still doesn't help. Any ideas how to fix this issue? -- Cheers, Hubert Hauser.

Hello Arch General, I hope this is the right mailing list; I'm a new subscriber. After a recent upgrade I found that DNS broke in two different ways on my computer, 1. BIND enabled DNSSEC by default, causing hostname resolution to stop working (for some reason my home wireless router broke the "trust chain", which I know nothing about) https://kb.isc.org/article/AA-01636/81/BIND-9.13.2-Release-Notes.html The default setting for dnssec-validation is now auto, which activates DNSSEC validation using the IANA root key. I had to add "dnssec-validation yes;" to /etc/named.conf. I have a forwarding BIND configuration so that Spamassassin's DNSBL queries can be handled specially. 2. There is a bug relating to systemd-resolved and nscd. It is also related to a decision made by systemd-resolved maintainers to never use DNS to resolve single-label hostnames: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2514 https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23546 This was very confusing to me because I had assumed that my computers were still using DNS to find each other via my router, as I had not changed anything related to that configuration. While trying to debug these problems, I remember checking the "Arch Linux - News" page (https://www.archlinux.org/news/) but I didn't find anything relevant there. I wonder it makes sense to expect that changes which break hostname resolution on home networks, or which may require reconfiguration on common setups to maintain existing functionality, should be announced on this page. I would be in favor of that but I don't know how I would phrase the announcement. For what it's worth, I was not able to find help with these problems on #archlinux or the BBS or superuser.com. [arch-general] Lxde taskbar freezing

It seems like some recent package installation or upgrade has been breaking my Lxde desktop. The taskbar at the bottom of the screen keeps freezing up periodically - doesn't repaint (except for non-lxde icons like network manager applet), doesn't respond to mouse clicks, etc. Then after a few minutes it suddenly starts responding again - only to freeze up again a few minutes later. The issue seems to be restricted to the Lxde desktop - the Xfce taskbar doesn't seem to freeze up in the same way. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Again, I believe it's a recent upgrade, as all was working for me during the work day on Friday. Thanks, DR

Hello, up to JDK 9 I didn't have problems upgrading, but since JDK 10 it always wants to replace JDK 9, and I guess it will become worse with JDK 11 etc. I've set "IgnorePkg = jdk9-openjdk jre9-openjdk jre9-openjdk-headless openjdk9-doc openjdk9-src" in pacman.conf, so now I'm getting warnings all the time, but I'm not sure what will happen with future updates. As a Java developer, I need to be able to have multiple JDKs for compatibility checkings. Kind regards Peter

Hi all. TL;DR: why is automake still at 1.15? I'm trying to work out if there's a reason for automake [1] being held at 1.15 (1.16 is needed for building cups-filters-driverless [2] due to patching Makefile.am; yes, I know, this cause is not strictly an Arch issue but it may impact on other software). Looking at the release announcements for automake 1.16 [3] and 1.16.1 [4] I can't immediately see any incompatible changes, and a web search on "automake site:lists.archlinux.org" doesn't show me anything interesting (or anything at all) from the past year or so (1.16 was released in Feb 2018). I don't want to email the package maintainer before doing due-diligence (I know what it's like getting stupid questions via direct email). Any pointers etc. gratefully received. [arch-general] Icons issues with LXPanel

Hey everyone, I am an user of LXDE and I pretty happy with it, but I just have some weird issue with lxpanel: My terminal (GNOME Terminal) has no icon in the panel, but after resizing the bar it does appear Some Electron-based apps (Mailspring and Franz) do not show their icons in the panel and have instead a generic icon I am not sure this can be considered as a bug or not, so I reported it here first. Any opinions on this? Would be better if I can fix it. Thanks everyone in advance!

Short of building an AUR myself, is there something I could do? Hi, I wonder if it's reasonable, that a package sets an '@users - memlock' value, since it overrides needed memlock values of other groups.
