[aur-general] Resignation from Dev/TU position

Hi guys, After a lot of thought, I've realised I've reached a point where I don't have the time and energy to contribute to Arch anymore. I'm at a transitional period from an intern to a practicing dentist(2 months to go), and a lot of work needs to be done, all of which requires a good amount of my time. I also will be travelling on business/education a lot this year, and for a good amount of time will not have access to any linux box to do Arch related work. And most importantly, I have to do a huge amount of studying this year to write a couple of board exams in the latter part of the year. I've tried balancing my schedule to get more time with arch in, but it doesn't seem to be working out too well, and I clearly need to focus on my profession. I don't want to see the quality of my packages suffer or my packages being out of date for long periods of time, so I decided that the best thing for me to do would be to step down at this point. The packages I've disowned and which are up for grabs are (luckily not too many): foobillard libbtctl bladeenc dvdbackup handbrake miro showimg smplayer (-rc currently in testing) smplayer-themes d4x deluge firestarter nicotine transmisson wicd gspcav1 I do hope I can set things right in my life and rejoin you guys sometime in (hopefully not too distant) the future. I will of course continue to use Arch all the time :) and try to help out occasionally when x86_64 difflist goes out of control :). Good luck to Aaron and the rest of the dev team, and all the TU's. Oh, and if you try secondlife PKGBUILD I sent, please note that we have distcc (pacman -Sy distcc), so you could get much faster results using this and removing DISTCC=no. Also FMod and x86_64 are said to not work together. Anyway, the SConstruct file (some kind of Makefile in Python) does deactivate FMod on x86_64. But of course, avoiding to touch these PKGBUILDs could help you very much keep your mental sanity.

These are: encelo: he has no packages in community and is in the AUR not listed as TU filoktetes: list mail to this list was 23th of December. 9/35 packages flagged out of date. iphitus: has 1 package in community and is of course a dev. pjmattal: has 1 package in community and is also a dev. Please report if you are still interested in being a TU. If someone could test my new (and first) package on a 32 bit systems: gtk2hs-darcs It seems gtk2hs developers have not (much) tested on i686 lately, a bug was found and corrected, but I'd like to know if there is others. Don't reply to this message directly, write comment on the package page. The ideal tester would be someone knowing darcs and Haskell with i686, but only i686 is essential. Pay, is the feeling to have contributed to Gtk2HS ;-) Thanks!

[aur-general] TU Resignation

Hey there, I was thinking about this for a while and finally decided to write the email. I've been doing this thing for about 12 months now and to be honest it's gotten really boring lately being a TU, I now think packaging is the most tedious and annoying process ever and I don't think I can be bothered doing this anymore. Anyway, I maintain 75 packages in community, most of which being the xfce-svn ones, but they're all pretty easy to maintain. I don't know exactly what should happen to the xfce-svn packages, although it would be great if another TU maintains them it is a lot of packages and it might be best they go into unsupported for now, if anyone is interested there is a script I have to automate the whole process of updating it. The rest of the packages are pretty minor, maybe even don't need to be in community, and it wouldn't be hard to just pick a few out. So there we go, I'll probably stay involved with Arch but definitely not the packaging side of it. Good luck to the rest of the TUs. -- Callan 'wizzomafizzo' Barrett

[aur-general] Cross-compiler that installs in non-standard directories

Hi all. I've never seen an official cross-compiler package in arch, so I'm not sure if I'm breaking some rule here. I'm going to release to [community] in a short time a set of packages (binutils-avr, gcc-avr and avr-libc) which previously installed in /opt/avr. According to the guidelines I moved everything to /usr, but a couple non-standard directories are created. One is /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu, which should be fine, the other is /usr/avr, which contains its own lib and include directories. Obviously namcap complains, but this directory structure solves some conflicts: for example /usr/avr/include/ctype.h would overwrite /usr/include/ctype.h... Should I go for it? C.

Well avoiding doing work today, I noticed a few packages still in community that were replaced by other packages. In some cases this was long ago... Here is a possibly non-exhaustive list: lmctl (codemac - replaced by lomoco from v1.0-1 [2006-05-05]) ruby-qt (dsa - replaced by ruby-kde from v3.4.92-1 [2006-06-13]) em8300-cvs (swiergot - replaced by em8300 from v0.16.0_rc6 [2006-11-26]) python-ctypes (dsa - replaced by python from v2.5-3 [2007-03-18]) libgtk-java (sergej - replaced by java-gnome from v4.0.5 [2008-01-06]) Some of the older replacements only used "replaces" and not "provides" but anything requiring them should be updated by now. java-gnome uses the provides/replaces strategy. Is there any reason that these are still in the repository or can they be removed? Cheers, Allan

Hi, I was just packaging btg in order to move it to community, but I realised that rb_libtorrent is in unsupported. I looked at the details page[1] and it appears pressh moved it from community. Was there any reason for moving it back to unsupported? There's also a small annoyance with the libtorrent and rb_libtorrent packages - they conflict. The two packages provide different libraries, but conflict due to having the same paths. There is a package in unsupported called librtorrent [2] which resolves the issue. Since libtorrent already exists in community, the package, along with rs_rtorrent, should be either removed or the changes should be implemented in libtorrent. There was also some discussion about this conflict on the bbs [3], which provides more detail. It appears Debian is having the same problem [4]. Their solution is to rename the packages to libtorrent-rakshasa and libtorrent-rasterbar, which may be better package names than rb_libtorrent and librtorrent. I think it would be better if these packages wouldn't conflict, but excessive renaming of packages is probably unnecessary. hi all I am not sure if this is the right place to post an adoption request, if not, please advise me the appropriate mailing list. I am an upstream author of a set of popular Chinese fonts. My team and I spent the past 3.5 years developing high quality free fonts for CJK users, including the first manually fine-tuned multi-strike bitmap font with full coverage to GB18030 charset (WenQuanYi Bitmap Song), and the first open-source Hei Ti (sans-serif) vector font (WenQuanYi Zen Hei). These fonts are quite popular in the Chinese community, and widely distributed by Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu etc. Contributors also packaged these fonts for ArchLinux, with the hope of benefiting ArchLinux Chinese users. [aur-general] TU: Disown extract-xiso please

Could a TU please disown the extract-xiso package. It was added in April 2005 and has never seen an update. I would like to take over this package and I've tried to contact the contributer without success. Further investigation into this users packages reveals that 3 out of 4 of his packages are flagged out of date, all 4 of them were added in April 2005 and have never seen an update. Maybe it would be best to disown all of his packages as the contributer doesn't seem to be around anymore. At least then others could take over the PKGBUILD's.
