[arch-dev-public] Get notified on website updates

Hello, maybe you are familar with the following problem: You want to get notified when there is a new upstream release. The problem is that not all projects offer rss feeds or an announce mailing list. And if they do they are sometimes too verbose or don't cover the updates you like. So needed something to watch a certain website and tell me if anything changed. There are a lot of webservices, firefox plugins etc..; but they are all too complicated and just don't offer what I need. So I though it would be quite easy to write something myself using cron and lynx. So I after a few minutes I had a simple Bash script whih just does the job. It loops through an url list and prints the diff to the previous run. Running this by cron I get an email including the diff everytime one of the observed websites are updated. Maybe someone else has some use for it, too. Recently we had some package updates in the repositories where just the pkgrel was upped and nothing else was changed, and committed with "upgpkg: subversion 1.6.2-3" or "upgpkg: mplayer 29318-1.1". Both examples are worthless commit messages, as there's nothing in there that describes why it was bumped. Could we please make sane commit messages in the near future, so we have an idea why a package has been bumped? Thanks.

Hi devs, we had a long discussion about xz/lzma support some time ago. So I finally added xz-utils to testing and rebuild libarchive to make use of it. If everything is OK we can move both to core and remove lzma-utils from extra. I don't know if anything else has to be recompiled to add support for xz/lzma. PS: you can build xz archive with bsdtar (part of libarchive). Hi all, I had created some usefull tools to create torrent files of our isos based on Thomas' idea of using ktorrent. It includes mktorrent to create torrent including webseeds, lstorrent to get some nformation about a torrent file (e.g. hash) and a script called mktorrent-archlinux which makes it easy to creat iso.torrent files including webseeds. There is also a PKGBUILD to create a package from git. The only problem is that both programs segfault on exit. I am a real noob on C++; so I am in need of a little help here. Everything works fine and my very limited skills show me that the problem occours after the main() method was left. I'm just loading new icu up to testing. This will requiere rebuilds (from our packages webside): * brltty * go-openoffice * libflashsupport * libwebkit * openoffice-base * openoffice-base-beta * openoffice-base-devel * tin I'll do the rebuilds one by one. This will take some time especially for the OOo packages... Please report if more packages will need a rebuild. -Andy

Any dev here that used to or currently wants to maintain these? They are both orphans and it seems I was the last to build them so I have been assigned their bugs. Given I do not use these packages I have almost zero motivation to fix their bugs... Allan

I just went though all the vim-* packages and updated them to the latest versions, as well as changed their install location to match the new vim layout. Please let me know if there are any problems with the new packages. These should move to [extra] whenever vim leaves [testing]. -Dan

Hi, device-mapper-1.02.32-1 is in testing. Changes: - minor upstream update. Upstream ChangeLog below. - To get the static library (not sure if it's needed) to build I had to add a configure option. This also built a dmsetup.static binary which I decided to keep in the package along with the dynamic one. I guess that I wouldn't hurt in case of system rescue. The package in core doesn't have the static version of the dmsetup binary. Please comment, test and signoff. Eric Upstream ChangeLog : Version 1.02.32 - 21st May 2009 =============================== Only generate libdevmapper.a when configured to link statically. Export dm_tree_node_size_changed() from libdevmapper. Propagate the table size_changed property up the dm device tree. Detect failure to free memory pools when releasing the library. Fix segfault when getopt processes dmsetup -U, -G and -M options.
