Guys, Just dropping a note about using Arch to print to virtually any printer from your iphone/ipad. All you need is cups and avahi-daemon and a printer definition in /etc/avahi/services and it works flawlessly. [arch-general] no Boot after last kernel update

Hi, I could not boot after the last kernel update yesterday, I have no idea what happened, my screen stopped at the bootsplash, I could not even shutdown the machine from here. - Hard-Reset I had to use a live-CD to fix my system I have found that the syslinux.cfg was not automatically updated to see the new kernel. I moved /sda1/syslinux/syslinux.cfg to another place and mv /sda1/syslinux/syslinux.cfg.pacnew /sda1/syslinux/syslinux.cfg shouldn't this be done automatically? I don't remember this happening after the last kernel update...

[arch-general] Alsa/Pulse not using sound cards?

Hi, My system's sound is no longer is working. No, it's not muted, the sound modules are loaded, and there are pcm's in /dev/snd but no /dev/dsp. Also, while alsamixer does show the sound cards, it is only using the null device, and pulse audo doesn't see the sound cards either. Anyone know why alsa might not be using the soudn cards?

Hey everyone,... From recent discussions about troubles with OpenCL as well as comments in AUR, forums, etc.. I got the impression that the whole thing is pretty confusing for an outsider... and for an insider too for that matter. So I put up a wiki entry. So far it's a wip article on my wiki profile here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/User:Kralyk/GPGPU I'd like you to + have a look at it and tell me what you think of it ;-) + check if my wording is tolerable enough - English isn't my native language, feel free to correct + See if you know anything about the (missing) Nvidia/CUDA parts I myself am not really acquainted with CUDA and Nvidia-flavoured OpenCL so I'd like to ask if someone CUDA-savvy out there would be so kind as to help out and fill in those gaps. Guys, The hylafax pkgbuild needs to be fixed. (/var/abs/extra/hylafax/PKGBUILD) There is an extra 's' in $spkgdir on lines 54-55. Reads: install -D -m 755 $srcdir/${pkgname}-${pkgver}/util/notify.awk \ $spkgdir/var/spool/hylafax/bin/notify.awk Should read: install -D -m 755 $srcdir/${pkgname}-${pkgver}/util/notify.awk \ $pkgdir/var/spool/hylafax/bin/notify.awk Currently it tries to remove the real '/var/spool/hylafax/bin/notify.awk' resulting in the error: make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/david/tmp/hylafax/src/hylafax-6.0.5/po' install: cannot remove `/var/spool/hylafax/bin/notify.awk': Permission denied ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in package(). Aborting... If you build with write permission for /var/spool/hylafax (i.e. root) you would have removed the notify.awk file from the installed version of hylafax. (who builds as root :) -- David C. Guys, Cups has been working like clockwork for the past year - up until the last 2 kernel updates. Now after boot, a manual '/etc/rc.d/cupsd restart' is required to get it working again. Would moving it in the DAEMONS line make sense? Listen localhost:631 Listen phoenix.rlfpllc.com:631 Listen phoenix:631 Listen www.rlfpllc.com:631 Listen 192.168.7.15:631 I think the real issue is the 'Address already in use' errors, but that doesn't explain why it cups starts just fine with a manual '/etc/rc.d/cupsd restart'. If the address/port was actually already taken, then I would expect the restart to fail as well. The the ACL error is fine - cups isn't using acls on my box and I don't want to set the acl mount option in fstab, so I can live with that error. I've been through the forums, google and bug tracker task/22895, but still no solution. Should I move cupsd earlier in the DAEMONS line? Anybody else seeing cups fail to start on boot, but starting fine on a manual restart? Thanks for any thoughts or help you can give. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
