Guys, Doing a major rebuild with new archroot and I've run into an error either due to needing to run 'pacman-key --init' or due to GPGME -- or both. Do I need to manually chroot the archroot and run pacman-key --init, or can I pass it to the chroot with makechrootpkg -- (some option). What's the best way to handle this? After running 'sudo mkarchroot -u $CHROOT/root', when I go to build a package requiring dependencies with 'sudo makechrootpkg -r $CHROOT -u', I get the following: ==> Checking runtime dependencies... ==> Installing missing dependencies... resolving dependencies... looking for inter-conflicts... [arch-general] installation failure

I am getting a failure when attempting to install 64-bit arch as the main OS on my principal desktop system. I am following the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Software_RAID_and_LVM, since I have two brand-new 2TB drives that I want to use in RAID1. 1. I have downloaded and burned the current NetInstall image on a CD. 2. Booting from the CD, I execute: /arch/setup 3. I execute: modprobe raid1 4. I execute: modprobe dm-mod 5. I execute: pacman-db-upgrade 6. I execute: pacman -Syy All the above works fine. 7. I execute: pacman -S gdisk At this point I am told that I should upgrade pacman, and am asked if I want to do this. I answer "Y". A bunch of stuff gets download, but eventually I am told that the upgrade cannot be performed. Possibly this is because it's attempting to write to a read-only filesystem -- i.e., the CD drive (I'm guessing wildly that that is the cause). But in any case, I can't get past this point. Hi, I've recently upgraded to linux-3.4.2 only to endeavor that it isn't bootable with my hardware. Basically my screen gets black during boot-up and remains so without anything I can do about it. I've got a Nvidia GPU (310M) driven by nouveau, which worked reasonably fine for the last couple of months. I can remember that there was exactly the same issue with kernels prior to 2.6.38 (or 2.6.39?), so I'm quite unhappy about the regression. I haven't looked much into it yet, just wanted to know whether anyone is also affected by this and/or whether or not this is already known (to the kernel developers)? Otherwise I would probably have to mail to some kernel developing list, wouldn't I? Best regards, Karol Babioch

Oracle has declared JRE/JDK7 the preferred one over JRE/JDK6. So it should be now stable enough to replace Java6 for everyone also in the OpenJDK community releases. I'm asking if there's somebody still in the need to use openjdk6 for certain apps that fail to run with openjdk7? If so please report it upstream. I know there's are still some commercial java apps that will only run on the Oracle JRE6 or JRE7 but I ask only if somebody prefers openjdk6 in our repos over java7-openjdk. I'd like to drop openjdk6 when the next security update will be released if possible. -Andy

Hi everybody, I'm currently on a school project and I run a dozen of virtual machines, all running Arch. I noticed that every time I set up a new VM, I have to manually run the `pacman-key --init' and `pacman-key --populate archlinux'. Wouldn't it be time to set up a new installation release? Thus new users wouldn't have to bother about pacman recent changes, and moreover the basic install would be kept simple, ready to use. Geoffroy

[arch-general] VPS can't access after update filesystem?

Hi, I rent a VPS from a not-so-famous provider, and they use XEN. After I updated my system on Jun 10 (I update my system every Sundays), My VPS seems dead. I can't ssh to it, I can't ping to it, I can't do anything to it. I don't get any error message from the SolusVM control panel---it says: 'online' The service of my provider is not that good, so I really don't get any useful info from them. I re-installed the OS (they provide Archlinux-2011.7-x86-64), and the VPS is accessible again. But after I update that new system, The VPS stopped working, same as above. All I know is that update includes 'filesystem' package. So I suspect the updated 'filesystem' package is the culprit. Maybe the 'init' process encountered some errors. No error log (probably won't get anything anyway), so... Again, VPS provider info: Supervisor (is that right?): XEN Control panel: SolusVM System: Archlinux-2011.7-x86-64 Regards.

I'm having problems with getting a sis 771/671 PCIE VGA display adapter to play nice with Arch on my asus X5DC laptop. [marshall@jynx ~]$ lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 771/671 PCIE VGA Display Adapter (rev 10) I've tried drivers from extra (extra/xf86-video-sisimedia 0.9.1-3) and AUR (aur/xf86-video-sis671 0.10.3-1). Both drivers give the same results, a bright dark-grey screen getting lighter towards the middle, with the middle being almost white. I am then returned to a prompt with Xorg saying No screens found. Looking through /var/log/Xorg.0.log it looks like xorg did find a screen and tried EVERY possible resolution to start an Xsession but couldn't find a suitable one. My questions are: Is this the right driver for the card or should I be trying something else. Has anyone got the same card working with this driver and an xorg.conf? I'm running the VESA driver ATM, which is working fine until I try to play full screen video or play mari0, then things get slow and ugly. Any help would be appreciated. Regards --TIMTTMY

Hi, I've been using the original cdrecord (cdrtools) for more than 10 years now, however I hadn't burned anything in the last 3 months (or even more). With the current linux kernel image from Arch: % uname -a Linux jvasquez14 3.3.8-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 5 15:20:32 CEST 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux I can't get cdrecord to recognize any cd/dvd writer, not the laptop one neither an external USB one... I might be mistaken, but with 3.0 image I believe things worked (can't be sure, as I said I haven't been burning anything for months). When I try to identify the cd/dvd writers: % cdrecord -scanbus Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 3.01a07 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2012 Joerg Schilling cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open or use SCSI driver. cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'. I looked through google, but the responses I get are pretty old, some from 2004, talking about early 2.6 kernels... I found one page (an old one as well) that suggests using ide-scsi emulation, but that seems to me old as well: http://xpt.sourceforge.net/techdocs/media/cd/cd03-DeviceConfiguration/ar01s… Besides for quiet a while we don't get hdc or sdc, just plain sr0/sr1 (even the scd0/scd1 was removed), and that seemed to work before if I'm not mistaken... Perhaps now the way is "sr0=scsi"? Any ways, maybe someone knows better, :-) I can try the boot loading thing, but before, I wanted to see if someone has experienced this, and there's a known work around. Thanks, -- Javier.

Got this error when I try to start totem today : [fred@fredo-arch ~]$ totem & [1] 7902 [fred@fredo-arch ~]$ (totem:7902): Grilo-WARNING **: [plugin-registry] grl-plugin-registry.c:623: Failed to open module: '/usr/lib/grilo-0.1/libgrlupnp.so' [1]+ Segmentation fault totem I verified, and of course, I have "/usr/lib/grilo-0.1/libgrlupnp.so" installed.
