[aur-general] ttf-google-webfonts{,-distilled,-git,-hg} mess

I am the current maintainer of the AUR package ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4], and I'm bothered by the mess of various packages there are for Google's Web Fonts project. It's not at all KISS in its current state. There are currently four different AUR packages[1][2][3][4] that essentially supply the same files, and all four packages conflict with each other. Around August of 2012, the package named ttf-google-webfonts[1] was orphaned, and user w0ng created a GitHub repository[5] that mirrors the Mercurial repository[6] on Google Code (why?). Then, the new maintainer changed the original ttf-google-webfonts package from a VCS-type package that simply lacked "-hg" in the name to a package that pulls tarballs from w0ng's GitHub repo[5]. As you can see in the comments for ttf-google-webfonts[1], this has caused all sorts of confusion and messages about the package being out-of-date or having invalid checksums. To get around these issues, user epinephrine created the package ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] that clones w0ng's GitHub repo[5] instead of pulling tarballs from it, which significantly reduces the maintenance required on the package. Then, user Gently created a package named ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] that pulls a tarball from w0ng's GitHub repo[5] and only installs a small subset of the fonts therein. Shortly after ttf-google-webfonts[1] was changed from being a Mercurial-based package and not liking the direction that the package was taking, I reuploaded the original ttf-google-webfonts package as ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] for people that simply wanted the old package back that uses the actual Google Web Fonts repository to download the files. To clean up this mess, I propose that ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] and ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] be deleted outright, for what should be obvious reasons. I also propose that ttf-google-webfonts[1] be deleted because of how frequently the Web Fonts project is updated and because the project lacks version numbers. If people really feel strongly about keeping that maintenance nightmare, then let them have it, but I really don't see what advantage it provides over the original ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] other than one less makedepends. I apologize for the huge email, but this situation really is a mess. [aur-general] Copy.com dueling packages

There are 2 packages for the Copy.com client software package: copy - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/copy/ copy-agent - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/copy-agent/ I think both have PKGBUILD problems, from dependencies (the Copy.com software uses Qt4, not Gtk, for instance) to poorly formed PKGBUILDs (one has just a package() method and one has just a build() method). I'm not really sure how this should be resolved, mostly because I wouldn't pick one over the other right now. Any one with more PKGBUILD confidence want to step in? [aur-general] disowning a couple of packages

Hi, I'm disowning sage-mathematics, sage-mathematics-spkgs(optdepends for sage-mathematics), fityk, and xylib(dependency for fityk). I will move them to the aur in a week if no TU adopts them in community. If you plan on adopting sage-mathematics, you should know that it is currently unbuildable on archlinux, and some other newer distros due to how it is built. [aur-general] Re-iterating the problem of AUR xorriso and Archlinux libisoburn

Hi, six weeks ago, i asked for advise how to deal with the outdated AUR package of my program xorriso, which overwrites the executables of the properly maintained package https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=libisoburn On advise of this list, i later posted comments to https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xorriso/ https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xorriso-tcltk/ which received no reply and did not cause any activity. A month ago i wrote to the published mail address of the maintainer "dreieck". No reaction since then. What can i do to instigate the resolution of this mess ? Meanwhile the AUR package "xorriso" overwrites the current "libisoburn" version xorriso-1.3.2 by a xorriso version, which is three releases and 8 months older. Between both releases there happened 13 bug fixes. Have a nice day :) Thomas

Hello everyone, I like Arch (and its philosophy) and I'd like to contribute to the development of our community. So, according to above, I'd like to become a Trusted User. And here is some information about me. About me. My name is Evgeniy Alekseev and I'm a PhD student. I'm working in Moscow State University (yep, I'm from Russia =)). My speciality is theoretical and quantum chemistry. At leisure I write small applications on C, C++ and Python (and some application scripts on Shell), link to the github profile may be found below [1]. In order not to seem like a bearded nerd sometimes I listen music and read Robert Jordan's or George R.R. Martin's books (or other similar). =) In the global Internet (including bbs, bugtrackers, freenode, github) I have usually nickname "arcan1s". About my contribution. Unfortunately, I didn't contribute to the development of the Linux community (I didn't commit to kernel repo for example), but I wrote (and writing now) some applications with GPL license, that may be useful for somebody. In some open-source projects I reported bugs (kate-cpp-helper-plugin for example) or even suggested the solution (qmmp-qsmmp). I rarely report bugs, because it is usually difficult to understand is this a bug or a feature. Sometimes (because I'm a little shy) I write in our bugtracker or in mailing lists/IRC channel. I'm maintaining several packages in AUR that may be found on the link below [2]. As you may see, some of this packages is my applications. For some others (such as scidavis, qscite) I wrote patches for correct build. About my Application. I asked Sergej Pupykin if he could be my sponsor and he agreed to do so. I have two laptop with Arch (both are x86-64, but I may install to one i686 system). And on one of those (that used as workstation) I'm actively using testing repo and have a lot of packages installed from AUR. According to list of packages that I'm maintaining (and according to the idea that users should support only those packages that they use) I'd like to maintain scientific applications (mathematics, physics, chemistry, some of biology), KDE-based and some of Qt-based applications.
